							Hi all,
I just did an AU conversion on my ED track car. Transplant motor has about 180kkm from an AU2 converted to LPG (hit a roo). Still running stock head and cam but with log manifold, ED fuel rail and gli fpr and AU injectors I was running way to much advance on ignition, engine was pinging and overtemp light came on through 3x 4lap sessions at Winton. I had one session with oil coming out of the dipstick hole. Things got better when we got the timing under control I did a compression test since and got: 1 to cyl 6: 160 160 120 130 140 140 dry. Wet test give a consistent extra 10 psi on each piston Spark plug where carbon black. Someone told me that low comp on cyl 3 and 4 may show burnt exhaust valves. My plan is to swap to a tickford head + wade cam 977b and get the J3 chip dyno tuned. Is it worth doing on that bottom end or should I be chasing another one? (I can really justify the cost of a rebuilt engine) Can anyone advise on the compression test results? Cheers |

I did this post in Feb, 2013...............
I did a compression test the other day.....I was fitting some new spark plugs, and thought, why the hell not.....so I did a dry comp. test. They were all 185 psi, except for #1, which was 190 psi. The engine is approaching 150,000km.......... This is an ED 4.0 original bottom end with an EA 3.9 head on it.....using a composite head gasket, and an EF XR6 cam. Me thinks your donk is rather worn.

You're probably right. Now I got to figure out whether I rebuild or take a gamble on another Au engine... |
