!!!( FIXED Was a intake manifold gasket leak, Runs perfect now Thanks guys)!!!!

hi well most of you know i have been rebuilding an ef engine since last december, its in the car and i have driven it,

im having a few coughing and spluttering problems for instance when i go to give it a rev it coughs for a second before reving up,,also for example i was crusing along at 80 and i would let the gas off to let it plain back down when its around 1200 it coughs when i go to go it back up into the revs , few people say it could be the timeing but the ef has a synconiser?????

any ideas would be great

fuel???? maby???

+1 to fuel, could be fuel lines a bit clogged (especially if dual fuel) or fuel pump might be on the way out. does it run rough on idle also? if so check leads n plugs. doesnt sound like anything too major mate

it idles its just when i go to rev around 500rpm to 1700rpm that it chokes and f@rt and sometimes backfires through the pod,,

so today after checking quite a few things including hooking a ossilloscope up to the diagnostic port, ( nothing there)

one thing that was weird is when i disconnect the map sensor from the manifold it will rev properley from low ranges instead of just couging and s**t itself, but blows a heap of s**t out the exawst

when its running normally no exawst emissions

any ideas? im baffled, btw it doesnot have a stock intake, 30cm of pip[e then pod st8 off the bbm, could this be the cause?

My car is having the same thing happening at the moment too. Sputters momentarily, then takes off. Although i believe mine is also leaning out in the upper rpm. What work has the car had done to it?
Im putting mine down to requiring a tune on the j3.

Cheers
Sam

It could possibly have something to do with your air intake. I remember i once forgot to reattach my air system and when i started the car it was a lumpy piece of s**t. Maybe ur pod isnt on 100%? or its not clean & dusty ?

Try seeing if its a bung coil pack. Had a similar issue on my EF. Would take off from lights or roundabout and would f@rt and cough and jump till i got till about 2500 onwards, then she was sweet. Changed the coil pack over and hey presto, brand new car!!!!

I would suggest taking one lead off, putting it on new coil, next lead off, on new coil etc. As it is in a b**ch of a position and you cant see unless youve got b**ch arms or have someone looking from above.
