Just out of curiosity since the BA's have had the option for the egas or petrol engines, what are the main differences???, also would it be better to get an aftermarket gas system or the factory egas engine??? Also out of curiosity what would you expect from the BA egas enigne on the quarter mile???

The gas version is down a bit on power but has slightly more torque. Performance is reasonable but not as good as the petrol. The gas car has the entire petrol system replaced, so you have a LPG gauge instead of petrol, etc.

The gas tank is also under the floor so it doesnt intrude as much on the boot. The Spare Tyre is in the boot however and the floor is alittle higher (on the sedan).. but compare that to the space lost on normal LPG conversions.
Id love to have the Egas engine with a GTI Conversion.... damn |

with BA it is eihter EGAS or NO gas!
as far as i am aware there is no dual fuel aftermarket option for the BA's ( last time i spoke to scott about this ) also the egas motor has a green rocker cover

have driven both types of cars and u can hardly feel the power difference, its prob a lot better to go for the factory system cos u know that it would be designed for that type of car whereas if u go to a gas place to get it converted you'll be using generic parts, more chance of it goin up the s**t...

I have driven both.
If you like long country trips, or good (but not excellent) fuel economy. Go the E-GAS. You won't notice anly loss below 3000RPM. You get about 18-20l/100Km in the city and about 12 on the highway. Petrol is about 13 in the city and 9-10 on the highway. If you like reving your car over 3000 RPM then go for petrol. The EGAS drops power and feels very dead.

The only BA I've driven is our work ute, it's egas, and I must say it goes harder than my minor modded EF or mom's petrol work AU.

Talking to the mechanic the system was specifically designed for the BA.

there is a few differences but one that is most notable is that the egas engines use the harder pistons as found in the typhoon(correct me if wrong).
as for economy i get around 16l in me old mans egas ba in town and around 10 -11 on the highway. im going to sydney tomorrow in it so ill tell u how many k's and average fuel eco

Apart from the obvious fuel system and rocker cover colour change I thought that the main difference was better rods and pistons. Someone may have said that the mega HP Nizpro motor uses BA Egas rods tha thave been shotpeened. And yes the EGAS feels quite punchy down low (so punchy it goes like a worked petrol motor) but dead up top.

any mods you are able to do, to increase power at higher revs??? Is the engine mod friendly, or would it be best to stay with the factory setup??? the obvious ones that i would see is an exhaust and new intake, is that rite??? |

exhaust and the like will give it more power without affecting anything.
mind you,you could change the diff gears that will give some nice top end.
