Points taken on board, gents. I keep forgetting the simple things, always looking for the most complex !
Will get stuck into the fuel delivery issues today.
I keep looking at the Max-Ellery and think, bugger, as usual, the pics are shot and I have to guess at some dismantling. Can't wait to get hold of the factory manuals. Hope they are as good as my Toyota Hilux manuals.

On a similar thread, don't know if you'll are aware of the drama that the Opal fuel mix caused in Alice. Folks were reporting rubber fuel hoses deteriorating. Well, the EL's were shot when we purchased it and first thing I did was replace it, this was before Opal was available. I've been using Opal since and have'nt had any problems. But lets see what sort of rabbit I pull out of the fuel tank.

I eventually changed my fuel pump out of frustration (and lack of other things to try) and would you believe that was the problem all along.

Hi Bonzer,
Did you experience a change in fuel consumption after you changed the pump?

Should also explain that the power went up as well. The problem started gradually, & I just didn`t realise how much power I had lost.
I`m a much happier old bugger now, than what I was when I couldn`t figure out the problem.
Cheers to all

Well, installed a new fuel filter tonight, had to wrestle with the metal fuel lines, because the new Valvoline filter was shorter than the previous Ryco and stuffed around with the fuel pump fuse under the coolant reservoir, because good ole Max-Ellery says to de-pressurise the lines before dismantling them..
Half way thru that I wondered why I did'nt just pull out the rubber tubing like I did when I replaced the flexible lines 2 years ago  it was much faster
So, after the filter install, I deeply pondered the idea of pulling the pump out for about 1 second
Stuff it, lets see how it goes. It went, first off like a Flinders Station Cabbie. Has'nt done that from a cold start for more than 6 months. The baptism by fire will be tomorrow midday.
If it works, you guys are worth your weight in unleaded Premium.

It was great to wake up to some good news for once! Hope it stays right for you.
Re Ellerys manuals. They are not as bad as Haynes but both should be read before attempting a job you have never done before. Then just take the average of both manuals & keep yer fingers crossed.
I must admit that the special tool that Ellery suggest for removal of the fuel pump cover works a treat. I built one exactly as shown. It saves a lot of damage to the plastic ring, & a hell of a lot of frustration & time.
Cheers to all. Bonzer (the old bloke)
