thanks for that now i have to go and wrestle with the guy whe reco,d the head and see if he will fix it. Would you normally expect valve seals to be done when you buy reco a head?

Yes, that is part of recoing the head in the first place, plus cleaning, crack testing, resurfacing the head gasket face, regrinding the valves & seats, check wear in guides, vac test the seats when assembling, check installed heights of valves, check valve springs (free length and pressure at installed height, pressure at full valve lift )....... lots of stuff.

Does that give you an idea of what should be done????

did you use running in oil after the engine was built? you might have glazed bores?

i used the recommened oil 15w 50 engine armour. i dought its glazed bores as it has done it ever since the job was finished and its only done 600km. I going to take it to a mechanic on Wed to see if they can pin point the problem. but it does sound like valve seals from what cjh has said. for the amount of smoke it blows after you back off surely glazed bores couldnt do that. heck i hope not anyway.
