i recently drove from QLD to VIC in my ef mont and when i was halfway the car started to surge/miss i just accelerated and it went away this happened a few times on the way, also when the car is in drive and i'm stopped the revs change from 700 to around 550rpm and the car feels like it is going to stall when i put it in neatral it goes back to normal. when i got down here i changed the fuel pump, that didn't work. i changed the sparky's and the leads (prick of a job  !) that didnt work.i don't know how to fix it and its really annoying. whats going on??? thanks in advance

dad's used to do that, never actually stalled, but got close.

we changed leads, still stayed, i think we ran some injector cleaner though, and it improved abit, still does it, but nowhere near as bad now

may be a long shot but are your brake lights working, i found under cruise control conditions when i use the brakes it didnt recognise it and tried to keep giong, changed the brake switch, fixed the problem

I have exactly the same issue with my car, intermittant miss, usually under load and poor idle. I have done leads, plugs injector cleaner etc. the next thing I think to do is the fuel filter. mine hasnt been changed for 90,000kms now, so I think its time for a new 1 ;) If that doesnt work my gues would be coil pack, and I DONT want the cost or hassle of fitting a new one.

i also have this intermittant miss under load. also sometimes under constant throttle and also poor idle. i too have changed leads and plugs and i have also done fuel filter. i am very confident it is not a fuel related prob as economy is very good. i have also had it in at dealer and had codes pulled and alas coil pack did not show up which means it is working ok. my next plan of attack is to pull leads back off and check their resistance and buy another plug and replace one at a time driving between changes to see if i can isolate one plug. if it still does it after that not sure what to do.

I'd go over the leads and coil packs again. I've fried two sets of leads in 5 years for some reason and the packs are also notorious for cracking in extreme conditions. If anyone needs a pack let me know.. i've got a brand new one i've never used. I bought it thinking my packs were finished but it turns out lead no. 3 was arking...

heard of a similar problem with an AU. turned out to be the air flow sensor cutting out intermittently

i haven't looked to see if it is the prob but if leads are arcing out, how do you stop it. the way they are routed to the coil pack they are all bunched together. maybe if i used a gizmo like on top of rocker cover to keep them apart. i will pull them off this w/end and check resistance though just to make sure i haven't bought a dud. is there a way i can check resistance on spark plug.

this air flow sensor you speak of. is that on an 8 or 6. whatever the prob is with my car it is not affecting mileage so not likely to be connected to fuel system. also hasn't done it for a week or so now. has gone for months without missing and then it will do it a couple of times.

sorry to hijack thread although hope it is somehow helping also.

A smart lock will not start without an interior light AFIK.

how did you come to this result. were your brake lights not working? my brake lights are working so i presume my switch is o.k. my parents had this switch go on them and they had no brake lights but that was the only thing wrong. no miss or erratic idle.

glad to hear you have fixed your prob. nothing worse than a car thats not running right.

It called be your cam or crank angle sensor is not working properly either. Mine reported one as being faulty and it was missing all the time, cruising down the freeway under no load it would miss and piss me off something chronic!

I wiggled the wires around a bit and its not come back since :D

fault codes come up all clear. surely if sensor was playing up it would register a fault.
