I have just installed a 1636 wade camshaft, I added the extra shims.
Before I installed it the car was running completely fine, but now the car starts and sounds fine but when I put it in drive or reverse the car stalls and stops running.

Do I need a "J3" chip?
I have these mods:
-extractors
-cat
-exhaust
-big snorkel
-air intake and pod
-au fuel injectors
-LSD 3.45
-300kpa fuel reg
-shift kit

I'm running an ef xr6 ecu and was running fine with all this but now with the 1636 camshaft it's got idle problems now, sorry bout the novel of garbage and that but I would love some help please!!

Thanks guys,
if this topic has been covered just redirect me as I did a search and couldn't really find anything.

South eastern suburbs- in Kilsyth south close by ringwood.
I have been playing around with it and double checked that everything is back in the usual/ working place.
I have searched online for other people who have come across similar problems but couldn't find anything.
Thanks chargd.. :)

Ah k not to worry mate thanks anyway.
I honestly have no idea as to why it won't tick over into drive or reverse with out it stalling, like it starts up fine and idles fine!

I'll unplug the battery and reconnect it again and see if this may help, could it be the idle cable thing on the throttle body. I have no idea, anymore!! :(

just a thought, maybe start it and put it into 1st and see what happens, ideally someone with a bit more knowledge needs to shed some lights but see what it does

check the base idle....
- clean the throttle body and butterfly with carby cleaner and a rag
- disconnect the ISC
- start the engine, and adjust the throttle stop screw on the throttlebody until its idling around 600rpm
- reconnect the ISC and see how it behaves

A 1636 runs fine on a stock ECU as I had one set up like that once...

Did you dial the cam shaft in right? Use a vernier gear and set it up spot on 50 thou lift at the valve?

Cheers,
Tim

Yeah when I put the camshaft in I put it in the same way a few members had mentioned.
Like the car starts up fine but stalls wen it goes to drive or reverse, I can only keep it going If I have 1 foot on break and the other on accelerator
I'll get some carby cleaner and have a go at the base idle,
Are there any manual/ step by step on how to do it?
I'm not the most confident person at guessing what/ where stuff is hahah
Thanks guys!!

So you dialed the cam in with a dial indicator off the valve and not the lobe? The 1636 said lobe lift but I rand Wade and they told me the spec sheet was wrong and it was meant to be 50thou of valve lift...

Did you find definite top dead centre of just used the mark on the harmonic balancer? You sure the harmonic balancer hasn't slipped...

For it to stall in gear it's out of it's power band and the transmission load is stalling the motor... I bet it's a pig on take off too... Sounds like you've got the cam out of time with the crank... Esp if this is all you changed to upset it...

Mine was dead accurate to 50thou on the valve and with found definite TDC by dropping the valve onto the piston and using the dial indicator to find when it stopped rising... If you do this make sure you drop the valve onto the piston at the right spot or you'll lose it inside the chamber...

Cheers,
Tim

Yeah I probably f**k some thing, I literally took the old cam shaft off and poped the 1636 one on, I cable tied the chain and followed the steps. used a torque wrench to tighten the rocker gear and once it was all back together I took it for a drive it was driving fine for about 15mins and the annoying ticky noise went away aswell. Just a little confused as to why it started stalling after I took it for a drive after I installed it. :(

I may just take it to my mechanic after I have a play with the throttle body this arvo!!
Thanks

So, you used the factory Cam Gear and not a Vernier Gear. Probably explains why it is out.

Esp considering the centre of the lob may change when they're re-grinding... You may have had to adjust the cam a whole tooth with your current gear... But if you didn't even attempt to dial it in we may never know?
