Is yours a Feb '98 or later EL?

I got a similar surprise at the sydney dyno day back in november, when I pulled 102RWKW / 439NM @ 90KPH, when compared to other ELs, I was a good 7-10KW up on 'em. The late ELs came with a hybrid EL-AU engine that had some improvements.

439nm??!? The factory figure is only about 365nm aint it?

I Think that 439nm has been multiplied by the gearing as it will be less than the stated flywheel output of 357

Thats a believeable number mate. My EL auto dead stock ran 108rwkw, so add a manual and a cat back and i would believe 120rwkw.

hah, funny reading this

reading twr7xc (is that right spelling?)
i said a stock manual be getting 120 atw...
because of 20% loss instead of 30%

(i know those % figures are bull s**t, just kinda a coincidance)

cheers Walkinshaw,

I'm still getting the chart scanned, my dads scanner shat itself last weekend, next week he has a new MFC coming, so it should be next weekend.

On Monday the car is getting put back on the rollers again, to see if there is any gains from the work on the weekend... :)

You've got yourself a good one there mate. Are the K's very low? My Dec. '97 auto I6 made 97rwkw and 418rwnm with K&N, EL XR6 snorkle and 3" mandrel bent intake, 145000kms the same day Datamine's made 102rwkw with snorkle and filter.

That was one damn hot day too. Even by the patented 'seat-of-pants-o-meter' the car goes so much harder on cold Canberra winter days.

I'm hoping to see some improvements on the next Dyno day.

Your auto would be hogging that power I'd say. The car has 133,000 km on the clock, I've had it since 101,000. Previous owner was a retired man who towed a small caravan around awhile with it, and the first owner was a hospital car that travelled from the riverland to adelaide.

122.9rwkw was the result from todays runs.

I had a chat to Blackwood Dyno Tune about some mods too.. I might end up with my car running at Saloon spec :)

Saloon cars, they race circuit tracks like the V8 supercars. But they are 6cyl, EA/ED and VN/VP sedans. Recently I think they opened up the category for EF/EL and VR/VS models.

I'll hassle on of our staff members to scan my dyno chart today.

The work they quoted me on was for:
Saloon spec cam, rocker cover gaskets, shims, adj veriner gear
Saloon Pacemaker extractors, new 2 1/2" Exhaust & high flow cat
Bigger & ported throttle body
Unichip + dyno tuning

Should be a bit of fun.. later on if I get sick of my car, i can buy a new one, and turn it into a saloon racer ;)

Not to kill the grin on your face, but i think that figure may be a bit over inflated for some reason.

Considering that at that rwkw figure your engine must be pushing 180kw at the flywheel.... I have an EL Ghia with extractors, exhaust and AU snorkle, plus the XR6 engine, and I get between 118 and 120 at the wheels. Now that is realistic.

I know of a manual EF Futura with extractors and exhaust that gets 117/118 rwkw. Thats realistic.

I have also taken my car to a dyno that gave me 141rwkw, which would mean I'm pushing 200fwkw. Not realistic. Same dyno gave a stock EL Ghia 120rwkw... Once again not realistic.

It was said in here to take your dyno results with a grain of salt. Some of these I6's can give surprise dyno figures, but 20rwkw above stock, for an aparent stock engine, to me is not believable. I'm guessing its the mode that the dyno was set to when testing.

Either that or your stock engine is not as stock as you thought. Who knows, maybe the grandpa that owned it before you had to cam changed to give him a little more towing power. 98 to 103kw is good for one of these engines.... 103 to 108 to me is a freaky figure.
