I've just brought an EF Falcon for $400.

The previous owner said it was going ok and then just stopped as she was driving up her road.

Now it will crank but won't fire.

Anyone got any suggestions about where to start looking?

Ive got another motor for it but don't want to put that in and find out it's an electrical problem with the computer or something....

is there spark? is the fuel pump running? whats the smart lock light doing? is it on while the ignition is on?

is it a ef or el??

in the title you say el but you posted ef...
ef to el has a completely different ignition and ecu to each other...
if its an el it has a distributor,(usually the tfi module on the side of the dizzy fails)
if its ef it has coil pack...

both can have same the symptoms but diffent diagnosis...

Does the fuel pump run? If not and you have no spark, check the ECU relay under the header tank, if they fail you will get no pump and no spark, also the injectors get no pulse.

If the pump runs, check the coil pack.

Same just check as said but check Coil instead of Coil Pack.
