Hi. im cory and im new to Ford mods. i just recently bought a 98 EL Sapphire with only 106,000k's. and ever since i bought the damn thing it seems to get worse everyday. at first i thought it was the muffler because it seems to miss or backfire. So i changed the muffler(thankgod because the original was completely corroded out). and the problem is still there. it has bad idle quality aswell as when you put your foot down it has a wierd JERKING motion. like a Boost cut . but i have no turbo. i thought possibly it could be the gearbox or a sensor?? if anyone has info it would be much appreciated.

Thanks Guys. FORD MODS has alot of good info.

hey welcome to the forums of s**t giggles and stuff!

sounds like a spark issue

a quick check of the spark plug leads is due
could be 1 is loose
or just change your leads and plugs a fairly easy and inexpensive exersise to do
well leads ~$75ish plugs ~$3-$4 each
then go from there if that does not solve the dram could be a dirty injector or even a bad coil

hahah sorry for the few months delay on this thread but i havent been on the net in awhile. ive solved a few problems in the last 4 months, i got the injectors cleaned a new 91 degree thermostat which helps alot with fuel economy. becasue i realized it will never get out of cold enrichment mode. I put a K&N Pod filter straight off the pipe into an open box and used perspecs as a shield from most of the engine. It seems to run alot better since the new fuelk filter and injector clean but it still has idle problem, I believe it might be the manifold gasket. Thanks guys heaps of Help!!!

P.S. New JMM race series headers coming in next week and i will possibly get someone to make me a Mandrel bent 3" intake. (Im in WA and have no diea where to go).

Im chasing 240-250 HP at the wheel which is about 190KW but i would love to have it NA. Is this Possible????

i think thats a bit wishful, a couple of guys on here have about 150-160rwkw with heaps of mods.

data_mine has a cam for sale for the hybrid engine, he got 151rwkw with the cam, exhaust and some custom computer editing.

umm ive heard 170-180 KW with head work and big lumpy cam with intake and exsaust and a good aftermarket computer tuned right could be possible. The Cars only done 125,000K so the bottom engine is resonible, I dont care on the price by the end of the process i would have spent probbly 30K on this car so if its possible to get 180 on say $10000 work on the engine please let me know whats possible without Induction.

Thanks everyone i feel welcome to be here

It depends on the dyno.

There are very few genuine 170+rwkw cars out there. Not because its hard to do, but because the car becomes horrible to drive.
