No... The current engine plant is subsidised by the government to keep the production here. The subsidy grant is soon to run out.
It makes the engine an uneconomical prospect once the grant runs out. And that is before the extra costs of making it comply with emissions. Ford are only doing what Holden did. Just they are doing it over 10 years later. Plus I'm sure the prospect of an export program was a sweetner to the engine swap. LHD drive vehicles wouldn't work too well in the current straight 6 setup. It seems Ford has f**k us over in many a ways, but for the better when you look at it closer. |

yes. but when it goes to the v6, we will have to see if they will make the bloody thing last... I won't hold my breath.

the final specs arent released for our V6 yet. It's the same basic motor which is in the new Mazda CX-9

10 years? Wasn't the last aus made holden 6 the VK black 202? after that they went to nissan for the VL and then buike for the VN. That was back in 86ish which would make it 22 years ago that holden got rid of their aussie six. hasn't really hurt their sales though. |

They chose the Nissan motor because they were broke and couldn't afford to do a ULP conversion for the VL. Then they had a b**ch fight with Nissan over price and availability of the Nissan motor for the VN (which was never meant to have the Buick engine) and in the end searched the GM parts bin for an engine and come up with that s**t 3.8L Buick. Neither engine was ever a world class motor and was always a relatively high cost to Holden to put into their cars. Cheaper than developing their own, but still old technology that was made for a certain market. 10 years ago they fought to design and build a range of world class motors in Melbourne. They won and upgraded the factory to suit, with the plan that every large car built around the world would get an engine from the range built in Melbourne. Its all to ensure a large supply of cheap engines. Ford have decided to do the same thing, hence the fitment of this engine from everything made in Ford US to Mazda and now Falcon. |

not a fan of v6, but twin turbo typhoon sounds pretty good

Its a very different motor from the holden..
something you should keep in mind while thinking about this.. take a Lexus LS400 motor.. a modern engine design.. only 4 litres and it's standard output is just over 200kw.. and thats only because the japs have laws that restrict them to that. (easy to fix) Modern engine design usually means more power easier.. I don't like the .5 litre drop in capacity.. mostly because it'll give the holden a capacity advantage.. but I wouldn't make judgements just yet.. want and see. I'm betting the motor will get Australianised before going in the falcon and that might include a bit more torque and who knows what else.. |

200 kw is also more than the old 5 litres was pushing out with out the hsv tinkering.
torque will be another story. its all about stroke 
i doubt ford will shaft us with a poo engine. if they do, rough s**t. dont buy a newie. keep the ef
