This may or may not be of interest. I run a pretty high compression setup and daily travel between the CBD and West Sydney (110km round trip) I average 10.3l/per100 on optimax. Recently I've been trying out this Caltex 98 RON fuel (after an ecu reset) and now find my average has increased to 12l/per100. I went back to optimax this week and am back to around 10l/per100.

Thats good, was that off the trip computer or did you calculate it yourself?

Across the nullabour I managed 530kms for 40L or 7.5L per 100 but of course thats a flater run with no towns to slow down through and very little traffic.

My best highway trip when I first got my Ghia was about 8.2l/100km at 110km all the way.. I got 820km for the tank. Normally sits around the 9.3 mark now adays.

Compared to my XF, its best was 11.5l/100km, average was around 13l/100km. Great for towing.. If I tow my boat, i usually get about 14-15l/100km on the highway.. Whereas the poor XF was doing 23 to 27l/100km. |

Yeh Perth to Busso on the weekend for me, 8.4L/100km was my average for the weekend, that includes a few 140km/hr full throttle overtakes
Sure a 4cly might be better, but you gotta wait for the overtaking lane otherwise you have no chance!

And then some of the overtaking lanes arn't long enough to wait for a 4 to wind itself up.

OH CRAP! i never realized it (as my old car was hammered and chewed twice as much fuel as my falcon) but i must have a serious fuel problem. city driving i will only get about 350 ks to a tank (dunno exactly how to work it out but we figured approx 18L per 100 ks) fair enough it is city driving, and i am an 18year old and sometimes drive like it, but i dont rev the ringer out. what the hell is the problem with my car?

PS i usualy use BP ultimate.

i get 550-600kms out of a tank of BP ultimate which includes half city and highway driving. I do 100kms a day and do give it some stick. One week i drove easy and got 720kms. Its left permanently in power mode.

Forget any overtaking manouvers in a 4 Cylinder with a full tank of gas and 3 other passengers.... unless its got a Hairdryer on it..ALA .. WRX, Mitsu EVO, etc. Thats why I love the 6 cylinders best of both worlds, Can easily get enough Power & Torque with a few mods as a 5litre. But will only use a third less fuel than a 5L.
