G'day
Just wondering if any of you guys know a good metal fab place that would cut and weld an AU sump in the geelong area?
I've been to a few place that said they would weld it, if i got it cut, only thing is I don't have a bandsaw to cut it, and i don't think an angle grinder would do a good enough job?

depends on the operator.... tell them to harden up and get out the tungsten tipped blade in the angle grinder and get dangerous lol

could be done with normal 'thin' discs. If you don't want to do it yourself you could source a different shop that's actually capable of cutting AND welding. Most do these days....

Cutting is easy, get some 1mm wheels and get into it.

Use wax on the cutting disc when grinding/cutting aluminium. Like a candle. It stops the metal clogging between the grits of the wheel. For every say 60 secs of actual cutting, cut the candle for 1 sec to coat the edge.
If you get the blade clogged with aluminium it will jam in the job and break the disc.

I'd go 2mm blade. 1mm are prone to breaking pretty easy. You can go a bit harder with a slightly thicker blade.

Wear your safety's and GO HARD SON!

I've never tryed that with friction discs fitz, often thought about it as you have to lube the tungsten blades when using them. 1mm discs have a good way of stripping centres when jammed in ally, which is quite often lol.

I'd be more worried about cutting it yourself and not having anyone touch it if you take it elsewhere. Some people dont 'have the time' for people who do half the job themselves and some others don't want 'half a job'

Just cut it yourself and take it to previously mentioned place or get someone else to do the whole lot, have to be cheaper cutting it yourself

If you're really keen...a hack saw and a whole lot of elbow grease can get the job done...guarantee to have a hell of a work out

If you do end up using the hack saw...let us know how long it took hahaha. That would be one of the worst jobs to do...followed by BBM polishing.

Don't use a 2mm disk as you will find this hard going. Use 1mm and take you time, less effort is needed with 1mm. Let the disk do the work.
