Your plugs got done WHEN?
I know I changed mine every 5-7k, just to make sure there was no bang. I drove the car hard and it halved the life of the plugs. Worth noting. Nigel |

I assumed plugs were good for around 30 000ks? I give it a bit of stick every now and again but that's about it! |

Good advice for you in most of the posts above, mate. Check and replace Leads first followed by Plugs.
I had a similar problem in my old 302 Fairlane on Gas. Replaced leads and plugs but still had intermittant backfires (even after full tune). Found the problem to be a poor connection on the Inductive pick-up wire to the Gas control box. Tightened one clip and no more problems. Now I check all Earth and electrical connectors as a matter of routine maintenance.

OK guys managed to change my leads just now. Might i add that that was easily one of the most frustrating experiences of my life
![]() Anyway, checked the resistance of my old leads (original, 200 000k+ red motorcraft by the indications, complete with zipties and that tubing stuff that keeps it all together) and got a surprising result: Lead 1: 11k Lead 2: Needle didnt move Lead 3: 10k Lead 4:Needle didn't move Lead 5: 8k Lead 6: Needle moved ever so slightly! So.....what does this mean (apart from the fact they were stuffed, obviously). Have i been driving around on only 3 cylinders!? ![]() I'm off to work now and i'll see how she drives, and then i'll perform an ECU reset tonight. |

bearing in mind plugs are only ususally $3 or so each its not a bad plan to change them... the only other thing id reccomend is check the condition of your PCV Valve. I dunno if EF's and stuff are bad for it, but BA/BF Egas cars had a dodgy pcm calibration at one stage making them backfire and it blew the PCV Valve to pieces...

By and large this has been a good, reliable car. Before it was mine it was my dads, and it's been well maintained. Plus for $3k, i couldnt think of any better options 3. Excab my a***. Infact this is an OPT20 car. The dualfuel was put in when owned by my father K4. Bugger off OPT20 = Cop car, the speedo should have 2 Km/H per divisions instead of the usual 5 Km/H & is usually referred to as a chaser cluster.... Therefore the car was an ex-cop (persuit or chaser) car in an earlier life. See http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... ight=opt20

I had a flat spot and backfie problem until I changed the gas convertor. 1 of the backfires blew the intake apart and replaced it with an AU intake.
