OK, the time is here. Time to remove the head. All bolts are out. Anyone know how much it weighs? cause it won't budge. I wanna know if it won't budge cause its too heavy or there is too much gasket crap stuck to it. Any ideas? I plan on having me and 3 other guys to lift it out. Any persons experiences would be greatly appreciated.

get a good rubber mallet and give the head a whack or two, you should be able to life it off on your own

sweet, the rubber mallet got it off. Thats good
 . Only thing is in the process, the timing chain guide snapped off at the top. Thats bad  . Why did they make it out of plastic?

i htoght it was a type of graphite but yeah i had my guide snap and fell and jammed the chain which snapped and you can guess what else happened

yeh, i managed to retrieve the piece that fell in, (don't ask me how it got caught on the chain). I can tell this is probably gonna give me a headache. What did you do to fix it?

hahaha... Oh s**t... Bad... Depends where it broke. If its just high up on the guide (like the round bit where the bolt goes through) then it will be OK. If its alot further down, close to the top of the timing cover, then it may be wise to replace the guide. Which means timing cover off and a new guide to be done. You could probably leave broken (if its broken like in this manner), but it may not do too good for the chain. |

I did the same on my EA. The bottom half is firmly held in place by the timing cover. So if its only the very top piece you shouldn't have a problem with it staying broken.

Too late, I would have mentioned the guide, I broke mine putting the head back on. The guide does not cost much but it is a pain to replace. You need to remove the timimg chain cover which involves removing the harmonic balancer and I think dropping the sump down a bit to achieve. Someone may confirm this as I have heard after I did it that it can be done without dropping the sump. Cheers TW

best off to replace the guides. you can get a timing kit that come with a new chain, tensioner, guides and all the needed gaskets.
taking the head off and on should always be done by two people. the guy at he front making sure not the let the head touch the guides |

Ok, here is the picture of the broken guide. I reallycan't be bothered replacing it if I don't have to, What do you all think?

same spot i broke mine in the ol eb. i gave up and took it to the mechanic.
i couldnt get the timing cover off. my gregorys book said the sump needed to be droped at the front to allow the cover to come off. i tried unsucseesfully. and it made the mechanic rich |

If i binded it back together with a heat resistant adhesive coupled with the fact that it will be bolted at the top, do you reckon it will hold?
