Hey guys i'm thinking of changing the inline fuel filter myself on my Ford falcon Forte.

The repair manual says it needs to be 32Nm

Do i really need a torque wrench to do this job??

and what other tools do i need?

If the AU in line filters are the same as the E-series, then no you wouldn't need a torque wrench.

I have changed the fuel filters on my car plenty of times with the right sized spanners.

I recommend a pair of safety goggles if you plan on undoing the nut while your head is under the fuel filter, a tin can to catch left over fuel and some rags.

Make sure when you remove the fuel filter, you release the pressure in the fuel line by disconnecting the fuel pump or fuel pump relay, starting the car till it dies or doesn't start at all.

Also...don't use a wrench, use the right sized spanner, or else you may round off the nut, and I believe to replace the nut you need to replace the whole line...but I could be wrong.

If this is a sedan you should have a quick connect on 1 end and a nut on the other and as phongus said use spanners not shifters. I think its a 15mm for the nut and a 17mm on the filter.
You mey want to spray the nut with WD40 and let it sit for a whlie before you try and crack it aswell.

i want to change my filter too on a au3 ute, and i plan on a turbo down the road
is there a lager filter with better flow available or is the stock'o fine

Yep petrol in your eyes does sting like a b**ch :lol:

Got 95 octane in my eyes and f**k it stung, you can even feel it burning your skin if its left there for too long. Like others have said just use the right size spanners and you should be fine. If the nut is tight follow what foggy said regarding the wd40, some filters i have removed have had the nuts tightened too much and are a b**ch to get off while others are relatively simple and crack first time :wink:

Some genius rounded the nuts on mine in the car's previous life. Had to file new flats on there to fit a spanner!
+1 for WD-40
and +1 for petrol stinging in your fkn eyes!!!

Use a 14mm Flare nut spanner, and a 19mm open ender ( holds the filter still whilst undoing the flare nut).
Once the flare nut has been undone, and easy to undo, use a 14mm open ender.
Don't use vice-grips, stilsons, adjustable shifters, multi-grips, unless you absolutely have to, coz the flare nut has rounded itself off.
