Hi guys

Just a quick note on the filter set up i have had around 6 different setups running with the twins the drama i have is that on the dyno and on street at hi rpm's it seem's to crack or shatter all of the different types of tubing i've run due to the monsterous amount of suction they create, The simple filters serve their purpose very well.
As far as hot air i have 3inch tubing from each side scoope of the bar which is ducted to the bottom of the air box and a huge front opening as a grill also to the air box but even with out all of that once you start driving the momentem of the air is all ready flowing past the filters due to the fans and the standard front snorkle very minimal hot air is recived even on a dyno standing still the manifold air temp is around 22 deg that is without the flow of air.

Sounds good Mark. I failed to notice the cold air feeds at Crescent Dyno Day. I'm very interested and will be in touch. Just hope I don't get stuck in the M5 tunnel on days like yesterday when there's over a foot of water in it!

Your EL XR6 would get about 105-115RWKW on the dyno.

Just a few rough conversion formula for you:

30% of fwkw = rwkw

eg. my vehicle: 30% of 230(fwkw) = 70 there for 230 - 70 = 160(rwkw)

or

rwkw divided by 0.7457 = horse power

eg. my vehicle: 160 divided by 0.7457 = 215 HP

These are only a guide. I found the converstions on the net.

I usually just work it out rouhgly as the horsepower at the rear wheels = the kW at the flywheel.

I don't think it's a constant percentage though. I belive it works more like this:
A 148kW EB develops 100rwkw. Therefore it loses 48kW through the drivetrain. The car then gets extractrors, cam and exhaust and now develops 135rwkw. If it's still losing the same 48kw (as it should) then at the fly it should now have 183kW.

Yeah thats good also, but it is still only a guide. Only when you know your own rwkw and horse power, you can then suss out the conversion rates for your car.

ok just a few questions mark or anyone who knows:

in couple of months me and thew old man takin the engine out and going to do the rings but i was thinking bout putting flat top pistons in i have a wade 1004 14 cam lift 240 duration 204 .

just wondering will i have to grind the tops of pistons to get valve clearance or will it be ok.

my old man is a mechanic but he keeps things from me or tells me lies to stop me from doing it ?

Hi Mate
You will have no problems using flat tops as long as you don't take more than 50thou of the head.
