during night time, spray some WD40 on the pulleys one at a time. If the whining stops, then you've isolated the problem.

just replace the belts they sound glazed..
spend some $$ on the EA.. But if that don't fix it.. dunno mate.. But my old NA 3.9 would do that as well, exactly the same.. and sure enough it was belts. Anyone know what they are worth? Anyone know how tight..? Tighter than tight is stoopid, you will end up destroying the bearings.. sould have a small amount of movement in it.

if your not sure if its the alternator, just turn off your headlights at night (sumwhere safe) and if it stops, its the alternator, either that or your car is a vampire in disguise.

yea it was the altenator belt, a big dose of Belt grip and it stoped, i'll give it an extra tweak to tighten it when i can be stuffed
but *sigh* all my thrashing and neglect has come back to bite me, does anyone know what a stuffed oil pump sounds like?, theres now a wereing (spelling) type noise coming from down near the oil filter, but only when its cold once it warmes up it goes very very dull almost so you cant hear it (with your head stuffed in the engine bay). i have an oil pump from a 4.0ltr is that compatable with my 3.9, will it fit?

ive hurd that radio waves travel better at night, so mayb sound waves travel better at night 2 which make u here the sound.
