Hi all, found something very strange while looking over one of my work mates car and that was his new Redline Pod filter.

Seriously it sounded like a vacum on steriods while idling but as soon as he reved it F**k hell this thing bellows out a massive howl!!!!

Its was really really loud too. I put my head fairly close to it and s**t i nearly went completely deaf!!!!

He has a EB XR6 btw.

So does ne one elses pod do this?

That Redline pod filter sounds unique because I have never heard a pod set up howl like you have described. Would it be possible to get some pics of this set up?
Also, Has he got the pod isolated or boxed so as not to suck in copious amounts of hot air?

I will try to get pics of it, and then get someone to host them for me. Its just sitting in the area where the box used to be. No shield or ne thing around it either

Might sound fully sik uleh, but is doing jack s**t for performance. I got one for free, put it on my landcruiser, sounds heaps louder, but still sucks hot air, have to find proper set up.

Yeah fair enuf i told him much the same! LOL i said he should invest in some decent heat shield surround and then have it on a bracket so its just no sitting thier by itself. I will try to get pics and a sound clip too if i see him again at work.

Its simply sucking more air because of the heat going into it. Tell your mate just to make a heat shield, its not hard. Just need some perspex and some brackets and sit it in to seperate the motor from the pod. Or tell him that the pods don't actually do anything and tell him to modify the old box so that it gets more air into it, its not hard, just requires some creativity and a plastic hose to run from the standard box to the front of the car.

There's no reason why you can't use the pod filter in a cold air intake set up, i.e. put it into the air box with the snorkel and that.
When I first got the EF I rushed out and bought a $40 pod from repco, fitted it, and was disapointed as there was no difference in noise (the entire reason I bought the thing), I also noticed at full throttle the car was hesiant and really fully. But that's probably just because it's a cheap pod.

Well most of my mates have all installed pods on thier cars (wrongly i might add) but they have always sounded nice too. LOL. But this one just sounds F**k different, never ever will you hear a pod make this much noise and bellow out a tone like this one does i guarantee it!

But yeah i suggested basically everything that you guys have told me but whether he listens to me or not is another question altogether.

The only thing he told me that was wrong with the car was that the exhaust apparently has a few leaks in it. Or something like that. Could that have ne relation to the noise the pod is making?

Yeah if i've got the passenger side window down, and there's a building or a wall or something nearby - the pod filter sounds like its sucking in small birds and maybe some light aircraft.

Lives in the quarter panel tho so cant hear it a lot of the time. Apparantley quite easy to hear when outside the car.

As your your mate's car Xrfan, maybe just some freaky harmonics in there?
