ok i got my car pressure tested approx 3 weeks ago... All was fine no leaks... checked the coolant this morning and there was none in the resevoir(sorry bout the spelling).... Im thinking it could be a head gasket but unsure cause that is a s**t load of coolant to loose through a gasket... Any1 had similar problems????

had that problem. only because I forgot to re-tighten the cap from recovery position after hauling a heavy load.

Mine will on occasions drop the whole reservoir tank. Then after topping it back up, will run for months without losing any more coolant.

If you think it might be the head gasket, then you can get your coolant tested for traces of combustion gases. If cumbustion gases are getting into the coolant from either a cracked head or failed head gasket, the extra pressure can force the coolant out the overflow.

You can test if the coolant is coming out the overflow, by tying a small empty coke bottle to the overflow pipe and see if you catch anything.

Just a thought ! have ya checked welsh plug at the rear of the head? sometimes after pressure testing, weak or corroded plugs will pop.

my uncle had the same problem with his EL. The first mechanic he took it to said that the head was probably cracked. The second mechanic he took it to said it was a blocked radiator, and that there was no way that it was a head problem. The second mechanic was right, and it hasnt lost a drop of coolant since.
