sump is slightly different is it? Are AU's coil pack or dizzy? Is there something different about bolt holes on the bell housing?

yes sump is different..au,s originally are coil pack.. but the block still has the dizzy hole and a dizzy can be fitted..
(im running a au vct with a dizzy in my ed!!)
and yes i forgot about the bellhousing... but if its auto this can be rectified by using an au bellhousing, as the e series box bolts straight up to the au bellhousing..
or you can use e series bellhousing, its just a matter of the 2 bottom bolts not lining up with the e series bellhousing...

oh ok so just gotta run the e series engine loom to use the dizzy then and your all set?

Is the manual box the same Troy? AU bell housing lines up all holes? Do you have to use AU engine mounts or are they no different?

the e series manual box works fine with the au engine..(im still running ea t5) the e series box will bolt straight up to the au manual t5 bellhousing..(if you can find one)
unfortunatly the au t5 box extension housing is about 2" longer than e series so its not an ideal fit.(as the manual shift sits further back)..

its best to use the e series mounts.. as in fitting it to eb. use ea-ed mounts..
as in ef-el im not 100% sure.. but i think the au ones can be used..

bell housing are usually sold with the gearbox if anything... Very unlikely to get one with a engine... You'd have to find someone wrecking an AU who is happy to part with it separate from the box... if your handy with a welder and angle grinder you can mod the sump yourself... Troy would know, Au's are still a steel sump aren't they, not alloy til BA?

you guys are right on the money about the sump and the computer but you can also run a el sump but then you lose the advantage of the four bolt bottom end i work at mjr in aldury/wodonga we do this all the time and i cand tell you all the info is right but its not hard to cahange the loom and computer when the motors out

Something slightly off the money here, but maybe you know troy, although very expensive, maybe one day I'd like a 6 speed BF box behind my ED motor, when they are cheaper, if ever... Can this be don't with the AU bell housing do you know, I know its a few inches long and gear stick is further back... Or is it an impossibility?

isnt the rear main cap different/ meaning the cap needs to be changed/modified to allow a steel sump to be fitted??? or can this be rectified by using el hybrid main caps??

Any Machine shop should do the work for you, as long as they can weld Alloy.

yes it can be done..i believe you can use your ed bell housing? not 100% on that though.. even though the shift sits a little further back it still will fit into the car.

here are a pic from xfwagons build thread showing the au box in an e series..
