is it possible to just to takeout the back resonator on my ef xr6. since they came out with a 2.5in exhaust, and since i bought the car with a new exhaust meaning its only 1 year old, i thought why dont i just take out the back resonator until this exhaust is had it. I dont really want to get rid of a perfectly new exhaust. does it make a big diff in sound? is it a good sound? thats all im after really

Yeap you sure can. It should sound a little beefier, but I don't think it will be overly loud.

mines had the resenator removed, and it sounds pretty meaty... i couldn't see why you'd need or want it any more than what mine sits at!

Damn if i could work out how to save a sound clip on my digi cam i would put one up on the site.

I have done exactly that, and my EF XR6 sounds F**k nice as, lumpy idle, quiet past 4000rpm, (no drone).

And the exhaust note sounds very cammy,a very nice note to say the least. Its not extremly loud but its as loud as most aftermarket exhausts IMO.

Do it mate. It will be worth it!

The AUII XR6 has a twin set up, but one pipe is blocked of for resonance.

Does anyone know what would happen if I were to unblock the blocked pipe??

The whole idea of it was to cancel out unwanted sounds from the engine, but I have a new engine which is more powerfull and a set of pacemaker extractors (competition series). It would seem a shame to get a new exhaust system if I can get away with unblocking the second pipe.

I need to increase my flow.

shugg, if you unblock it, you'll have to extend it right to the back of your casr otherwise the entire underside of you car will be very sooty, fumey and dirty

gasses ?? lol, with no exhaust you woulda been flaming the bottom of your car :P
Ive had flames jump out of my exhaust when i had no rear muffler assembly at all, it was way way way WAAAY too loud, its a system built for loud but that was just way too loud :(

Chopping the rear resonator though is a great idea and you wont regret it later on, When i got the resonator on mine it was too quiet didnt sound much different at all which was a huge letdown considering what i'd spent.
Got him to chop the resonator off which he did for free and it sounds beefy as, people hear me coming blocks away :)

I think I will just get a new exhaust.

I just got quoted $300 for a sports exhaust to replace my system with a straight through 2 1/2 inch from the cat back.

Good price I think.
