Hi All
My EB is suffering from an oil leak from the Head Gasket on the drivers side just behind the Power Steering Pump. I know that to do this properley I should replace the head gasket, but I have received some advice that retensioning the head bolts may solve the oil leak. The engine is not using any water or missing or showing any signs of a 'blown' head gasket. Please post your thoughts on whether this is worth trying and if there could be any problems. Regards BenJ

i have read that the au headbolts are alot better so you mite want to get a au head and use the bolts retensioning them i wouldnt personaly do it hope that helps

In a word, don't. These type bolts are not meant to be re tightened and may snap if you try.

Sure its the head gasket? most oil galleries are on the pass side on the head.
check the timing cover or tensioner cover. remove replace reseal?

Don't-thats the simple answer,they are one use only bolts.Use new bolts,with the steel gasket for the AU.

Give the area a good degrease and check the area regularly with a torch and inspection mirror - you need to make sure where the origin is.

BAD BAD BAD, when you "tension" a bolt, or torque it, the bolt actuall stretches, so to retighten it your gonna stretch it past the strongest point and snap the bolt, or even risk snapping it easily. Just buy a new set, they arent all the expensive.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have already established where the leak is. There is a small node that pokes out just behind the front of the block. You can actuall watch the oil leak and then pool on the ground. Not at all pretty. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and do the head gasket. Yes I will use the steel AU one and new head bolts etc. The car has done over 377000 ks now, and while I believe the engine has been rebuilt before I got it, it won't hurt to do the gasket now before any real dramas arise. Just seems to be such a big job. Regards BenJ
