Hey guys, ive been searching around but still not sure, i think my cat is slowly getting blocked, Car goes hard when it just gets to operating temp but when the cat gets real hot after booting it a bit it starts to feel sluggish, no bottom end power, and the engine bay seems to get way to hot for normal temp even when cruising. I was told the first signs of a stuffed cat is excessive engine bay temp.
I pulled the cat off( standard one, has a full system except for cat) and i couldnt see through the cat. Should the Standard cat be able to be seen through? i want to get a high flow one in the next few weeks but just wondering if this one is blocked yet |

No you should not be able to see through a standard cat converter.
This is a pic of the inside of a stuffed cat converter, note the "honeycomb" has fallen, letting some light through, this honeycomb is the cat material if you will. This will be all you see, but mounted properly.  This is what a good one should look like

thanks guys, il only punch it out to see when i get a new one, then il just see what its like for a couple of minutes then put the good one on, punched out sounds crap and stinks

thats why i said punch it out for diagnostic purposes, would save you buying a high flow.
unless your running alot of horsepower a high flow isn't neccessary. if your car is running efficiently it shouldn't smell all that different from a standard one. and the sound just gets minutely deeper as it works as an expansion chamber.

atm ive got 140rwkw so i thought it might help a little bit when i get my custom tune. i can get a high flow for $100 so i may aswell do it and weld it up myself. Not risking getting caught with a dodgey cat

If you can do it your self then do so, becasue smashed out cats sound like a** and give no gains anyway.
The ford factory cats aren't that restrictive really, i still have mine on and dont plan on upgrading it.

which is why i'll stress again only punch it out for diagnostic purposes if it's supected to be dodgey.
as a general rule i'd only do it if it made shakey noises when you shake it.

hi flo cats are pointless especially on a low hp vehicle, up around 400hp you might get 5hp gain with a hi flo
