Hi i recently done a multi point conversion on my EA, it is a 5spd runing a 3spd auto computer, I have noticed at a constant throttle, say 3rd gear round 50km/h the car really surges, feels like it is throwing you back and forward... Really strange, could anyone shine some light on my issues..

Thanx alot.

Davo.

Check tps is under .95 volt idle speed at 650 with idle control plug pulled..Check tps , koeo [key on engine off] again under .95 volts...Check for inlet leaks, especially hose to map senser ...I assume you have changed the inlet gasget to multy efi type? Its either to low rpm or fuel is not correct??? Hmm could also be timing?? Too..All earths connected good...

Yer thanx for that, the timing has been a bit to far advanced, but it is more "missing" this makes it feel like it is surging... Thanx alot.

Wouldn't the 3 speed comp cause such problems? I remember reading something about changing some wiring so that when clutch goes in/ gear change, the comp thinks its in neutral?

I just thought maybe because the comp only knows three speeds, it might act like a three speed, like the surging you're experiencing is only when the auto decides to change.....
I'm confused trying to explain.

Yer i think that is my problem, ive paid for a 5spd ECU, just waiting for it to arrive, i really do hope it is just the ECU that is doing it.

It sounds like an ECU, as a friend who has a worked XR8 was doing similar things on constant throttle, it was also perfect in acceleration tho...

But my car is standard. So i have no idea.

Thanx everyone.
