just curious as to how hard is it to replace existing engine?, my EF has got some internal leaks and other problems so instead of repairing each hickup i would give the old girl a heart transplant instead, start fresh. is it just bolt on bolt off? how long ya reckon would take to do?

should take u a day at most
that includes pulling old engine out

If you get another working/better condition EF motor, it is a straight swap...plug and play. If you get an EL motor, there are some things that need changing, but mainly the dizzy into coil pack conversion. No need for ECU changing as long as the motor is running a coil pack I believe.

I suggest you consider getting an AU motor from Franks Queanbeyan and do the crossmember. Finding a good s/h EF/EL motor would be hard, and the AU motor is significantly better, lower fuel consumption, smoother, better head gasket.

If by chance you have a spare good 4spd auto floating around i'll swap you for the welding . . . otherwise good luck with whatever you do.

It's a five hour round trip for me, and i don't drink beer, and my gearbox is dodgy.

Bugger, get that EF back! I could have helped with the instal too, and vice versa.

Hope you find someone(s).

Maybe you can find out by ringing the RTA or suchlike, with regards to modifying a cross member, and maybe try to get them to refer you to written information because phone operators can be wrong.

If it was me i would just do the crossmember, the blue slip blokes may not even notice, or care, but i don't really know.

[Back to my side of things, i was looking at $765 for an AU auto from Franks with 160,000km on it, then found a dented EL fairmont just down the road. I got it for $800. Aside from the dents and being very dirty it's otherwise been well maintained, maybe my best buy yet.

So now i have a spare beautiful AU motor with only 112,000km on it, still running in my EB.]
