ok
once again its all good i hope.lol
i ended up geting a reconditioned 110 amp alternator from a local auto electrician.
ford have made them obsolete(thats probably a good thing due to price).

i also coincidently met a fellow fordmod member at the auto electrician.lol

Good news then Troy, although an unexpected expense.

thats the only thing that deters me from serpentine belt conversion, co-incedently my power steering belt always goes first and i can live without that till i replace them all at once.

alternator you can drive home without but wat about the water pump?

hahaha depends how far away you are.. i work at brisbane airport and have to drive just under 60k's home to caboolture when my alternator went as i entered the highway i only JUST got off the highway before the battery died completely (and it was a large battery) which stuffed it completely, which went from a 50 dollar second hand altenator to the altenator AND $170 battery.

give me a serpentine belt any day - stronger and self adjusting. you snap it and it takes 30 seconds to fit a new one, old 3 belt setup take the removal of the water pump one to fit the altenator then having to refit the water pump one. then you have to adjust them to stop squeeking

serpentine belt FTW

Hey Troyman, how well do you think the EL ECU runs the AU motor?

the au engine runs great with the el ecu..
it is so smooth and quiet compared to the old engine and it has great torque..
the only issue i had at first was some pinging and running lean!

i assume it was due to the higher compression but with things like colder plugs,au injectors and 3ookpa fuel reg those problems have pretty much gone..
it does ping alittle on std unleaded at the moment but thats only because i have the ignition timing slightly advanced..

HI Troyman. It's Nick. How's the alternator ?
It's good to see a fellow fordmods member in person. Hope to see you soon for the air condition.
By the way the car looks good. GO THOSE FORDS.

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought those things would affect pinging, i wonder how. Does a colder plug not ignite things so quickly?

I know you've mentioned it before, but are you running an EL or AU intake manifold? Which do you think is best in this application?
