Hey guys, recently had a full difillipo system installed on my car, from extractors to rear muffler. In the biggining I just had the difillipo cat back, and it had a nice note to it, but it had room for improvement, was reasonably loud through out the whole rev range, but lacked any sort of growl, it was loud but flat sounding, so today I finally had the rest installed, extractors and hi flow cat, and it changed the note significantly, it now has more of a growl to it, but it doesn't seem quite as loud and deep at high revs, it kind of drops off around 4000rpm. I'm wondering how I could combat this without making it sound ridiculously loud and crap!

Any suggestions?

You can dump it (wouldnt recommend it) or shorten the tailpipe by moving the muffler to the rear and still have a rear exitng exhaust. Short tail pipes - as in pretty much no tailpipe produce a deep note, as well as a probably unwanted side effect is heavy droaning inside the car. I wouldnt recommend dumping it becaue its not legal so if you get pinged for it you gotta go fix it, and you get fumes in the car which is never good.. and did i say it droans? It does sound tough tho.

Well, its the truth bud. Dont ask a question if you dont want the answer
Its a 6cyl, it doesnt and never will sound like a V8, no matter what you do.

Your problem is that your driving a 6, the 8 is your best bet at legally making a car sound tuff,

Come on guys. Answer his question properly. Running a hot dog muffler will help drop the tone a fair bit, but may open it up a little louder. Get a large hot dog to replace the existing muffler and that should give you the sound you want.

Did answer it properly. The only way to make it a bit deeper is to take the cat converter out all together. Its illegal though and makes it sound a bit "ricey" at low revs.

+1 for a hot dog replacing the rear muffler. It's what I've got on my EL with extractors, cat and catback and it's nice a deep.

And for the people saying just buy a V8, there is obviously a reason that he owns a 6 cylinder in the first place, whether it was price, fuel economy or he was on his P's at the time. If someone wants to make their 6 cylinder sound closer to their likings, there is nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.

My experience with taking the cat off my v6 d**k basher was the check engine light came on, it sounded and went s**t

Taking the cat out WILL NOT make it deeper. It will make it louder and resonate less.

I have a hotdog in the middle section, then straight through muffler then another hotdog at the back it sounds very deep. You dont need a V8 to make it sound good, you need a big cam or cams or in your case.

Thankyou to those who responded to my question properly. im asking about how to make it sound deeper at high revs, not to make it sound like a v8, i am well aware that i will not get the same sound as a v8. i thoroughly explained my question, so dont just tell me to buy a v8, ive heard alot of 6's sounding quite tough, and was asking how i would achieve it. So again, thanks to those who replied with useful information.
