with every nearly every early ef haveing bad hunting problems we should place a sticky thread.

then we should put all the cars with the problem in the thread and the people can list all mods they have done to the car and they can list every thing they have tried to get rid of the problem.

ill start

94 ef xr6 auto

mods : k& n flat pannel filter and seems to me like a aftermarket header that the previouse owner put on.

things done to solve problem : engine clean up , nearly all new sensours, new tank of high octain fuel , playing around with idle speed sensour , three weeks at auto electrician.

still no idea what the problem is.

Hunting problems = hunting for idle (slow rise/fall in rpm at idle)

I dont think we really need a sticky though, we would end up with more sticky's than threads.

using the search button works just as well. there are far too many faults and fixes to have all stickies. However I do think that a sticky should be made with alot of common problems (e.g whats that ticking noise etc <-- there are about a million threads on that alone).

yeh i know it dint make no sense i was rushing , i ment idle problems.

i mean i saw heaps of guys on this forum with the ruff idle and staling problem i was just thinking it would be good to see what every one has done about it and if any mods they have done to there car could have caused the problem.

and i dont think its a stupid thread there are guys out there with efs like me and they want to find out what the problem is and how to solve it.

so i thought we use prosses of elimination.

if you dont have the problem doesnt matter i just wanted to try and form a help section for people with the problem because it is a reacuring question and it doesnt help to look over past threads coz none of them have a solved the hunting and bad idle problem.

could be a good sticky "common problems", which could link of to the technical doco that covers these problems.

the below link is the "common problems" doco for the e-series.
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=23

as far to many people ask these questions, when there are many technical doco's with very detailed info on these common subjects.

nah its cool , and i went threw that doco in my search for a answer and it doesnt help it just shows you how to clean the isc but doesnt solve the problem that alot of us have ?

even if you get a new isc the problem is still there for most people.

i was just saying it seems to be happening to efs mostly.

so what makes the ef so diffrent to the ed, el and au.

what computer was used all that stuff.

i just want to help not just my self but every one with this problem.

there are only 3 things you engine needs to run. AIR, FUEL and SPARK

obviously air is getting cos the thing runs.
but you need to make sure it's only getting in and the right place. it's very common for the intake gasket to crack and leak, the bolts also need constant re tensioning, so get your self a 10mm spanner and check all of them. yes it can be a pain to get some of them but you still need to do it.
check for vacuum leaks in general

fuel. again it is getting in but you need to make sure the right amount is getting at the right time.
check for vacuum leaks around the hose for the pressure reg.
cheak the fuel pressure with a good gauge to make sure the reg is working properly, make sure the injectors are clean (an intank cleaner is not enough)

spark. make sure the coils are still good, make sure all realative sensors are working properly plugs are the right ones, not the plug that who ever said will be good get the listed plug for your car.
make sure you leads are good

make sure there is a good earth for the engine, clean both the battery terminals and clamps, make sure there is no corrosion inside any of the wires conected to the battery.

mack sure your base idle is right. that is it should idle at around 500rpm with the ISC unpluged, then turn the car off and plug it back in.

you could have bad carbon build up on the valves, pistons and chambers,
have a proper carbon clean done with somehting like a motorvac machine.

make sure you have no exhaust leaks

check that the head gasket is ok.
