(1991 ford NCI fairlaine 3.9 mpfi 4sp auto lpg) (se burbs melbourne)
so with head gasget gone, possibley head damage and most likeley a stuffed crank the cost of fixing it is gonna be too much. so it looks like im looking for a new engine.

so i need to work out whether to get one from say a wreckers or a reconditioned one.???

im looking at keeping this car for quite a while so im leaning to a reconditioned one.

how much would i be looking at for one from a wreckers installed?
how much would it cost for someone to install an engine?
how much would i be looking at for a standard reconstructed engine?

cheers for any help guys.

ben

well a standard reco according to my reciept is around 1600 (including shipping to my mechanic i think) and the labour for it was 900

keep in mind this was only a short motor which used my already good head (replaced headgasket 500km before bottem end let go) and all my accesories. i think it was a bit of a rip off really as it came to just over $2800 fitted, but my old man payed for it. it doesnt feel any different than it did before we got it replaced but im sure it will provide quite a lot more km's before she lets go again.

if i were you unless you really want to spend big dollars id just be sourcing a cheap low km ef or el motor and chucking that in it...

i was talking to engine reconditioners today and they (well definitely RPD) didnt want to put in an ed 4l, theyd only put in a 3.9l. know anyone who will put a 4.0l in a 3.9 car. and i still need to find a place that will put an engine in (not there own)

you shouldn't have to pay much more than like 700 labour to get an ed engine in? there's f**k all to change in the grand scheme of things.
you can buy an au engine off ebay for like 600 bucks, that's the pick of the bunch, but not sure how you'd go with ecu and stuff. been done plenty of times though.
