I dont know for sure, but ive been told the the pistons in teh ed are the strongest and the alloy used in the ed's head is also the strongest, although i have absolutely no evidence to prove this and would be happy to be proven wrong.

EL motors. Smoothest, quiestest and most advanced / refined.
Best of the lot is probably the hybrid EL motor. Basically an AU motor with EL pistons and EL sump, so a straight swap into engine bay. |

owning an EL hybrid, and recently driving an non-hybrid EL, I must say the smoothness is noticable at higher revs.

The EB2 motor is excellent...in an EB2.
I was never so happy as when I replaced the EF donk with the AU1 motor. If your going to play transplants, get the right sensors re-installed or you'll be disapointed.

EL is a damn good 4.0L, althought the ED engine has to be the most bulletproof. Some go hard. But i would go an EL engine. I work for a ford dealership and have seen some man ed's with 700,000+ on the clock completely original.

I read something somewhere that JMM doesn't like the AU heads.

the bottom ends are all basically the same minor differences which make most parts in the bottom end not interchangable but they are super strong the main difference is the heads, the later you go the better ef el au you cant go wrong

EBII_93, have a look on the JMM website, and read the article called "awakening the aussie ford six" (part one)
http://www.jimmockmotorsport.com/ as it give a little info about the differences, hope that helps....

are we thinking in terms of rebuilt or transplant from donor car cos i would take an au over an eb just on its lifespan!! if you are to rebuild then i guess you would have a fresh motor no matter how old.....
