Hey boys not all EA's are that bad so stop critising them, your falcons wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that step. I bought my EA back in end of Jan and it hasn't missed a beat, runs smoothly not a leak and is still in mint condition, got her with 140k on the clock.

Couldn't agree more! This EA is spot on! The general consensus of XF's, EA's and the like being crap is because of the taxi's! Buy an old taxi and of course it's going to break. Nowadays, they just wreck them instead of selling them so much. My car goes into the bodyworks in April, I know what I'll be having a lend of for 2 weeks! There's no way he can drive the EA, the ol' corolla wagon and the mitsu LWB van!!

Did I miss something here? Where did anyone say anything bad about EA's in this thread? :?

I've only ever driven one EA, so I can't really comment, but that WAS a heap of s**t. 4 speed auto 30th anniversary. Total dog! C*** of a thing wouldn't even do a burnout......

I'm sure they're not all bad. From some of the acceleration figures I've seen, they seem pretty good...

its not impossible to get a reliable EA...just rare

but EB2 or ED would be my choice for not that much more ($1000)...and a EB2 4.0 4spd auto would be heaps quicker than an EA EB1 CFI 3/4spd auto crap...

I agree with you there, my EA was reasonable reliable. Yes I did have the usual head gasket problems. Other than that it was good enough to drive across Australia with only the power steering switch causing us grief, and I believe they can still be a problem in the later models.
It also was a 4 speed 30th anniversary 'S' Pack.

Trying to work out if it's got the 3.2 or 3.9 motor - what is engine code B or D (i know that both B and D were said to me - one being transmission and the other engine) on the compliance plate?

come on now folks, the surviving ea's would all have to be ok.
all the s**t that was wrong with them has been fixed surely.
things like sand in the blocks f**k the engine from overheating and
s**t steering geometry fixed with camber kits.
they are just like ebs. just cheap s**t cars. having said this, i love my eb.
if a clean ea came my way and i needed a car, id buy.
i reckon the three speed auto is far away a better unit, as it does not s**t itself every 45kms from some s**t reason or other. the btr is clever in theory, but i dont think the 'support' technology is/was ready.
things like solenoids and what not.
as for the cpi, well mpi is better i guess because it makes the engines smoother.
