hi
what type of plug is recomended for a au engine?? it had denso w16exr-u11 but the car was running like a pig so i put the plugs from my old 3.9 wich have only done about 5000kms and they are bosch wr9lcx but im not sure if they are to hot or not and should they be resistor type?? and whats the difference between the xr6 plugs?? and after driving for about 300kms of city driving i took them out of the au engine and they look good but i think it may be a little lean.. what do you think?? here is a pic

i just been browsing the ngk web site and they recomend for el and au1 bpr5ey.. and au 2 igr5c13 .. and el/au1 xr6 zgr6b11.. whats the difference??? |

ok cool are they a colder plug than the std one ?? i can understand using a different with xr6 having different specs.. im curious why ford recomend different plugs for different model falcons. eg au1 bpr5ey and au2 non vct igr5c13.. |

yeah they are.
IIRC ford switch to using long life iridium plugs in the AU2's so thats just the direct replacement for what the came from the factory with.

i use ngk bpr5ey in my au2 ute tman,just standard plugs and change them every 20,000.

I just run the NGK r's as well.. top plug, no issues.

changed the plugs to zgr6b11. much better its running much smoother and it has a slight torque improvment but nothing to get excited about... thanks guys.... |

there is no power in plugs so the only reason to go iridium's is if you have a car where they are hard to get to and then you don't have to change them as often. cost is about the same as you go through 3 or 4 sets, maybe 5 compared to iridium. i use them in my ba as you have to pull the car apart to get to them. ford recommend changing every 150 000km. i did mine at 105000 and you wouldn't want to leave them much longer.
if plugs are easy to get to (anything pre ba) then like everyone else has said, just chuck in normal ngk's.

I get issue's with the bosch super plus- wr9lcx +, 2 months after service & it starts to miss under hard acceleration. its what the service guys use if I haven't got the time to service it myself.
NGK- BPR5EY- 11 are cheap & reliable. good plugs for what you pay for.

what about gas?
I tried bosch super 4's with a noticable improvement on my EF on GAS anyone else? |
