head gaskets are easy and cheap ($26) when you aren't a bloody woman who doesn't wanna break a nail (no offense to any chicks that have done a head gasket)

if he really must get an ea auto, make sure it's a series 2.
for the price though, i'd suggest an EB2 with the 4.0L engine.
you'll pick up a tidy ed for that price, and maybe still have change too.

As stated all here EA's are a hard working car, check head/gasket, check for rust in chasis and all joins especially in the boot, doors and sunroof (if fitted). if he really wants an EA auto get the 4spd 4L. There are still some very nice EA's getting around just got to be patient and find them. I paid a fair price for mine however in mint condition with mods and low K's of an elderly couple.

Oh and falcon4LOHC i would get some facts right before you critise a specific car, especially when the build process for the EA is basically the same for all E series, not to mention the same 4L MPFI I6 and T5 manual geabox used in all of them, and as for wiring, well wire is wire and the same in all cars. And the EB II wasn't the first to have a 4L motor, ive also blown a mate away with my 3.9L CPI... so why are all EA falcons now rubbish????

Yeah, EBII was actually. All EA's came out with either a 3.9 or 3.2.
What does your mate drive, a suzuki mighty boy?

They're not all rubbish, but the fact is ford made some major improvements to reliability and driveability with EBII. Too many to list.

The T5 isn't even the same, the one used in EBII onwards is stronger and has slightly different ratios.

So you get your facts right mate.

i agree with ya Kenwood Maverick

ea's aint rubbish if ya look after them properly.

eb to au series 2 blow head gaskets as common as ea's when they get over 180000km's but thats common 4 all pre au I6 falcons though

and wiring as u sed is all the same>

what car did ya ea 3.9 cpi blow a way? is it a 3 speed?

cause i have a 3.9 mpi 5 spd and it beats 5.0l vs commies with same mods!!!
but my 3spd cpi wont even beat a vl on vk 6!!

EA'S aint RUBBISH

i have seen a 4L engine in a EA, stocko no mods with a 4spd auto on it. from memory it was a late model 91 EA.

My little girl is a 5spd manual and she took apart a EF auto

but as you said take care of ya car and it will do whats required when you want to push it. and all e series falcons had the exact same head gasket, depending on how ya drive it

Dude, you don't know what your talking about.
It probably had the head done on it, and got replaced with one from a 4L.
Secondly, no such thing as a late 91 model EA, as EB was out by then.

eb2 onwards had the 4.0L 6.
anything before that is 3.9 or 3.2.

I reckon instead of the EA buy a VN commodore, they flog the pants off any EA. 4speed auto gearbox, neck snapping acceleration, better fuel economy.

I bought a VN once for $600, with 9 months rego. It has 370,000km on it. The guy thought it was stuffed. I took the risk. I changed the water pump, chopped the springs, added a transmission cooler and a pod filter and drove it on Holidays from Sydney to Gold Coast and back. I was flogging everyone on the highways. It was a bloody bullet that car. If you booted it from standstill, no stalling it up and would spin all of first gear. Sold it a year later for $1800

That was probably the best car ive ever owned. Bugger the EA, EB 4.0 then lets pick against the VN.

No, you just called a VN a good car...
There's a big f**k difference between a 'quick' car and a good car.
