ok heres a good 1!!!

after having an eventful week - finding yet another prob with my car, clutch cable snapping, full on @ work etc. etc. etc. - i pulled into work yesterday, all is good untill i finish and try and start my car and the F**K thing wont start!!!

now lets get the obvious out of the way... FUEL, put a 20L jerry can full with into it... nothing!!

turns over fine. took the cap off the pump, fuel is running thru both the return and sender hoses, and pump is working.

gauge says half full (a quarter b4 i put extra fuel in it) - i thought i may have a broken fuel sender telling me i have more fuel than i do as it went beserk the other day!!!

considering maybe smart lock playing up or something else electrical, but im sure some1 else with a little more knowledge and experience would be able to help!!

pretty confident all plugs, leads, vacuum hoses ect. are connected and there is no dramas there.

any sort of insight would be very much appreciated

BTW jus had new exhaust fitted, wouldnt happen to be ne thing to do with that?????

mmm i read in a few posts that that is kinda common... that would stop the car from turning over yeah???

she was a bit rough while idling when warm would that be a tell tale sign of a shot coil???

pretty sure - like 99% - that head gasket is fine

If the module is kaput, the car will crank as usual,
Just no spark will be produced.

Check all fuses inc. CRT lamp.
Also check engine bay fuses.
And try the old slap on the panel at your left knee

CRT Lamp is interior light fuse, controls smartlock also.

No tester? easiest way is to hold the leads terminal when someone else cranks.

Slower method, attatch a sparkplug and earth it, whilst cranking look for spark. (will need to be close)

In older points type cars i've poked a screwdriver in the end of the lead and put that near earth to see if it sparks, but nowdays the preferred method seems to be to take out a plug, stick it in the lead and hold the body of the plug against the engine and crank it to see the spark jump the plug terminals.

lol

it will be noisy if it starts, with one spark plug out, but yeah it will work.
probably safer to get a spare sparkplug and put in into the end of the lead, and sit it on the rocker cover / exhaust manifold and look for sparks.

EL XR6?
does the tacho jump when you crank it?

sometimes, like it revs high at first when it kicks over - not turning over at all now obviously - but usually.

wat does that mean???
