Hello,
My XH, with a Tickford engine out of an EL and BTR transmission, has recently been giving me grief. It has not been shifting above second, and upon deceleration the revs have been dropping right down, sometimes stalling, sometimes catching and getting back up to idle. First, second and reverse all work fine, it idles nicely and starts easily. When I lift off the throttle at ~60 and above (when it would normally be in third) the revs drop and it coasts along as if in neutral. Occasionally at 80 it jerks as if trying to shift up, but I haven’t had a chance to test anywhere faster than that. I have changed the TPS, cleaned the throttle body and put new plugs in but nothing has changed. Really at a loss as to what to look at next! Any ideas and advice would be appreciated! Thanks. |

did you make sure to check the fluid level in the box whilst warm & running?. did you also use the correct replacement fluid?.

Sorry, forgot to mention in the my first post, a couple hundred Ks ago a trans cooler line got a hole in it which dumped a bit under 4 litres of oil out - it was refilled with Shell ATF MD3. That was my first thought when this current issue came up, no leaks that I could see, took a very small amount of topping up while warm. I have read the BTRs can be picky with their oils, although I did drive for a while without noticing any trouble with the Shell oil. Is it worth draining it? Would Valvoline DX3 work as a replacement? |
