just wondering if anyone has or know if it's possible to fit a couple 10s in a box that doesn't go past the dip in the boot in an ef? what i mean by this is say, there is the lowest part of the boot (which is most of the boot), i want the box to stop where the first 'step' is. do i make sense?

Depends on what subs and whether you are using a sealed or ported box but there is plenty of room there.
2 x 10's or 2 x 12's should fit easily. Should be approx 2c/f of space which is normally plenty for 10's especially if you go sealed Pictured is a box I made for my wifes car which is 2c/f and accomodates 2 x 12's <IMG SRC="http://pic14.picturetrail.com/VOL555/2287184/7149236/93764025.jpg">
