Does everybody convert their 12V back to 240AC to plug their PS2 into?
For the new playstation, why don't you use an 8.5v dc regulator??? or is this a gizmo that doesn't exist? I may have missed this before or something, but it makes more sense to me |

It depends on the type of PlayStation being connected. Earlier models of both the original PlayStation and the PS2 had no DC input so you needed to have an inverter to go from 12V DC -> 240 "AC" -> whatever voltages the PS required internally. If you have one of the newer PSones or slimline PS2s then obviously it makes more sense to simply use a 12V -> 8.5V DC-DC converter.

I may have missed this before or something, but it makes more sense to me So I guess from your post the new smaller PS2 runs on 8.5v DC? If so then yes you could run a 8.5v dc transformer. It is however a unusual voltage and you may not find one, the PS2 may handle 9v but I wouldn't want to test it.

d**k smith/tandy should have an adjustable device that plugs into 12v car supply and provides regulated DC power at whatever voltage you want...

Thanks guys. It made sense to me, but I wasn't sure if such a thing was available. It would be heaps better than an inverter, as I guess being small you'd be able to hide it behind your install with no worries.
Being so cheap these days, it may be an option in future. |

i know that strathfield has a cassette thing with a head phone lead. I know its not what you need but it comes with an adjustdable power cig lighter connection. It has a bout 5 or 6 different voltages. I paid $15 for mine
