hi guys, just wondering how i will go about putting a set of 6" splits into the front doors of my AU TE50. i know that the standard speakers are 5x7's and therefore a 6" speaker wont fit into the hole. so has anyone here done it before? and can tell me what is involved? i dont really want to cut any metal out of the door as it is illegal (unroadworthy). therefore i will have to make a mount of some sort. please help me. thanx.

i got 6" 3-ways all round and all i did was drill new holes into the metal and mounted the 6" in the 5x7 holes, they fit fine if u drill ur own holes and u just get a small gap on each side of the speakers, sounds fine and havent had a problem with them...

is there much room for a spacer and speaker when mounted so the door trim will go back on properly? whats the room like behind the door trim where the speaker goes?

yeh ull have heaps of room.... the one thing that bothered me about the speakers in AU's was the fact they were bolted in with f**k security screws, a b**ch to get out

I have a pic floating around somewhere of my 6" Pioneer splits with tweeter mounted on a spacer behind the factory door trim grille ... all hidden.

spacers make you feel good knowing you have gone to all that trouble for nothing :D... 2cm gaps on each side of the speaker makes no difference...

I mounted a the MDF board in there so I could mounted the speaker and tweeter next to each other ... that's all really ... it's there for mounting purposes.

I know it's not sealed completely in the door ... and that would not be an easy task either.

Joesau - how did you wire the super tweeters up? just disconnect the factory and wire these ones in?

yeah i bought crossovers as well and just wired them up to the factory wiring. Checkout the latest Street fords magazine, in the tech section i think its in there, they did this on a Ba premo sound so i thought Au Ba similar premo sound systems so i just followed there steps, believe me where the tweeter is in the A pillar absoloute waste of time it being there. mount it on the outside, no joke i get an earache after a while if im cranking it.
