I have been thinking about modifying my ute tray to include built in storage, speakers and a few other little goodies. Though i am fumbling on where to go to get a quote done. I would assume i would need to go to an aluminium fabricators to start with then maybe an interior place to get the finish i would like for the exposed surfaces (speaker mounts, top surface, etc).
If anyone has done the same sort of thing i would very much like to see/hear about it. thanks

haha thanks for the offer, but not quite ready yet. need to draw up some designs first... was thinking of going to duratray to get the frame made up... or maybe make up a wooden mock up first just to test it out. then once i have it all working, ill go to a car audio place/car interior place to get speaker mounts etc made up.

What are you making out of wood ? When making framework wood and steel are pretty close in cost by the time the jobs done. Even when decking my ute, steel would've been actually cheaper. It's just I use my ute as a mobile welding bench, and while wood probably doesn't sound like a good approach for a welder, it's better than running High Frequency electricity through the body of my uterus.

ummm i was going to make a mock up of the draws in the tray to see how much room i have to play with and see how usefull the trays would really be... basically see where the happy medium is between draw height and tub room...
yeah i could imagine that having a live ute could pose a bit of an issue... umm just from curiosity, do you know a better tub liner than the standard ford one?

I don't see a problem with the standard liners but there are aftermarket options out there. Even paint on liners. The only problem I see with the standard ford tub is without it's liner, it's useless. Ever had the liner out of one ? The liner is the floor.

Not this one, but I had a BA RTV before this (see my build thread to see why I dont have it anymore), and yeah I know... I wanted to put tie down points in the floor, so took it out to see where I could bolt to... But there was nothing... They are a pretty flimsy/useless setup if you want to use them for a more commercial/load carrying point of view. The RTV's are rated for 1 ton payload... But I was always too scared to load it up in fear of warping the subframe supports of the tub. Though, we did tarp it up and make a kiddies pool out of it once... Lots of ice and a few drinks... Was good.

Going off on a bit of a tangent here, but I don't think there is such an animal as a one tonne ute with a manual. Was looking in my book for the AU the other day and apparently the manual conversion smashed my towing capabilities. Which makes sense I guess.
With the tray liner I was more reffering to putting a large load with small contact patch in an area that's unsupported which would punch straight through the liner. Obivously doesn't seem to be a huge problem though.

Yeah, I know it's a Holden.. But nearly bought a hq tonner. Was a mates project... But couldn't pull the money together unfortunately... would have been good once I converted it from three on the tree to four on the floor... But o well...
Yeah that's what I meant by too scared... It just doesn't seem right... That plastic must be good sh*t aye.. Lol

Boilermaker?
Yeah, I am a fitter and turner... And it has it's place, though usually somewhere down the bottom of the list. We only use it as a shock absorber in our larger shaft assemblies. Hmm... I want nice neat clean surfaces for the tub, but also something that will take a bit of load for when I do move or something of the like. Maybe a spray in tub liner... Hmmm... Soo much to think about, too much I think... :/

 This is what I was thinking, though not as high. Also, possibly a different finish... But the only problem... $3,036 just for the draws...
