just wanted to know if anyone knows a place in melb that can do this to an ef xr, i can get a high series bem and dash loom but i would have no idea how to install it and im finding it extreemely hard to find the parts needed to do the climate control conversion, not to mention that conversion is way to complicated for me.

Mate, to pay an auto elec to do this job would be very expensive.
It is a dash out operation, so there is at least 4 hours labour, then finding and supplying all the parts, working out how to fit them, and testing etc. I doubt you would get much change out of grand, even if you could find someone who knows what they are doing. I know I must have spent easily 20hours researching my conversion and accumulating all the parts. Unless you can get a fellow Fordmodder, who has done it before to help. I wish you luck. BenJ

The think is, is it really worth doing? yeah I like the auto climate control, but I do prefer the simpler version, hot/cold, from a turn of a knob...
Prob my favorite feature on the auto climate control is the ambient sensor. which ever way you go good luck! Also if you are going to do it, do the heater core and air con evaporator while the dash is out. Laticia.

i did it recently in my EF1 XR6. its not that hard and i did it without taking the heater box out!
where abts in melb ru, cause i can give u a hand doing it. heres mine with dual airbags and climate.

I'm from Donvale, was it hard to put dual airbags in cos im thinking about doing that to my car too

dual airbags was easy, i had to replace the loom cause mines an EF1, but even easier with a EFII cause the looms already there! what's needed is the dash support bracket, dash crash pad, passenger side ducting and passenger airbag.
and for the factory look 2 sunvisors with the airbag warnings and glove box lid! for climate parts u need are: ambient temp sensor blend door motor little arm thing on the blend door vacuum control thing fan speed resistor climate control unit sunload sensor Fairmont dash loom green BEM sniffer hose Last edited by magna on Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:39 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

i can get the loom and the green bem but all the others are impossible for me to find

most of the self serve places have em, but its a dash out job to get them. i forgot too with the Fairmont BEM and loom it also adds the electric antenna! but u will need the antenna and the button.
i've got some of the bits but it might be worth putting up a wanted add. i know jollys in dandenong have the climate modules for $55. |

im still just sussing it all out and finishing off other things to the car. the electric antenna is another thing i want. im planning to put a full fairlane interior in, ive got eveything done except the climate control, electric antenna and the dash cluster.
where exactly is jollys? |

just make shore if the parts are off an EF to get the EF climate (black buttons) or EL (grey buttons). i've heard the parts arn't compatible between models. |

Correct.
It is best to get the climate control module and vacuum distro box from the same car if possible. The Fairmont loom and BEM will also give you the dimming dash lights. You will need the Fairmont light switch too. BenJ

is there anyway to find out where exectly the parts are located on the car and what they all look like cos i have no idea at all and the tech doco doesnt show pics of all the parts for the climate control conversion

If you have access to a high series loom and BEM, I have the rest of the stuff needed for a climate conversion. Heater box, computer, sensors, etc...
Then its upto you. Its not hard, just a little time consuming.

ef2xr6 wrote: is there anyway to find out where exectly the parts are located on the car and what they all look like cos i have no idea at all and the tech doco doesnt show pics of all the parts for the climate control conversion  thats 3 of the bits. grab the arm that the blend door motor connects to as well cause its different to the non-climate one. i did mine by adding the parts to my heater box, rather than swapping it out cause then it requires draining the cooling system and air con lines. sunload sensor sits on top of the middle of the dash near the winscreen. its a small white plastic thing. ambient temp sensor sits just behind the middle of the front bumper. climate control module is the thing on the dash with the buttons. it connects to a black plastic hose that u will need too. if u need help installing let me know. |
