I have a EL fairmont Ghia and the bracket that hold the strut and come away from it mounting this means my boot wont stay up and it is a real pain in the a***. I have taken a look inside and it loks like the spot weld has broken is there a easy way to fix this? p.s the gas strut is fine its the actual strut suppost which is faulty

easy fix, get the bracket and drill a few small holes in it at 45deg across from each other and put some small bolts with nyloc lock nuts on them to hold it in place.
or get a welder

I had a similar thing happen to my wagon tailgate 2 weeks after I bought it. Took it back and had it fixed up for free. But yeh, the spot welds can come away.

Access it from behind the rear seat, drill some 3/16 holes and rivit it with stainless rivits. Mine has gone over a year now with that rapair.

Man that is a b**ch. Happened to my dad's old Fairmont too. We both had altercations with the boot and our heads and backs many times, lol.

I was amazed just how heavy those boots are when you take the assistance of only one strut away...

wow, didnt realise this was such a wide spread issue!
mine have always held up good, for now touch wood haha.. Imagine how heave the boot lid of the fairlane is, not to mention if u got a spoiler or anything other off it.

Yeh this also happens all too often on EF's and is just another example of poor design.
If only the designers had inserted the bracket from within the boot rather than from the passenger compartment, then the bracket flange would support the weight of the boot lid and the welds would just hold it in place. Instead the bright sparks at ford use the spot weld to support the weight of the boot lid, fatigue sets in and one by one the spot welds fail 
Bolts seem to be the easiest solution unless you redesign the bracket to fit from within the boot

I've also been victim to it.. either screw it back on or get it tacked back..

Yeah that hapnd to my EB...The spot welds came apart....I just put three teck screws in it...No problems so far

Just a quick question how do you get to that area, from looking at it i would have thought you would have to get to it from the inside of the car?

yeah...i found the bracket had come off when i was redoing my interior so my back seats were out of the car..i presume its the same for the EF / EL.

Peztacular - Easiest way is from inside the car. Remove the seat side bolster and you will get to it easily.

Thanks i think that will be the way to go, are there any tricks to getting the side bolster out havent had a look at it yet?

i also have this problem in my ef back seat out fold the top down take the plastic thing off the side thing undo the bolt at the bottom then reef it up and pull away then i drilled some holes and bolted it up
