G'day whats the easiest way of changing my headlight globes? i cant seem to get them out when undoing the black thing. Also on the drivers side the battery blocks me how do i change them???

you'll need to most likely take the battery out to get to the ones on the drivers side. as for the headlights - from memory, i think there is a clip the holds the globes in - a wire one. if you poke your head in there, you should be able to see what i mean...

i found the wire thing holding them in but i couldnt un hook them.

hmmm... from memory, you have to squeeze it inwards & then pull
your handbook thing in the glovebox should give instructions!

As far as I know the high beam + the headlight are the same globe. I may be thinking of tail lights though.. probably am
lol.

thats a negative, to get to the high beam globes, u need to take the black surrend off the bumber (where u open the bonnet from, if ya know what i mean) underneath this, u will see on top of the headlight a black thing with 2 screws on it. Undo the screws and there is your high beam globe

getting to the drivers side low beam, its easiest to take the battery out.
the clips come off by squezzing them together and then pulling out, they can be a prick to do first time, as can be getting the new globe to sit in properly and do the clip up. if anything feels really tight, something is probably out of place, as when its all correct, everytrhing goes back together nicely (ie. dont do what i did and force the clips and bend them)

just disconnect the leads from both terminals, positive first, undo the bar across the top by undoing the bolt at one end, this will then flip out of the way then lift the battery out. you want to take the battery box out too though, but this is pretty straight forward, you should be able to tell!

ok i got the battery undone but i couldnt lift it out. It was in the black box but i had nothing to grip to pull it out and the black box didnt want to come out with it, so how do i get the actually battery out??

I found that just taking off the battery clamp and tilting the battery slightly gave me enough room to change the globe. It was still pretty squeezy, but I'm a big bastard with big fumbly hands.
Tip: use the (much easier to access) passenger side to get a better view of what you need to do. You probably won't be able to see the driver's side very well so you'll need to do it by feel. BTW this is on an EL fairmont, you didn't say what model you had... My old EA falcon had oodles of room behind the headlamp assemblies, and you could remove them completely without having to take off the bumper! |

you make up 2 L shaped hooks, maybe use the battery clamp pieces to do it? .... then you take out 2 of the bungs in the top of the battery and hook the hooks into the holes that the bungs came out of and lift the battery out of the box ... i wouldn't be surprised if you can buy one of these from a car parts shop or, you can do what i did 1st time around, make a small slit cut down each corner of the battery box, enough to get you fingers in and under the rim of the battery and lift it out, much neater tho if you make the hooks and lift it that way, you gotta have super stronger fingers the other way
