Just bought these:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... IBSA:AU:11

10 x T10 globs with resisters/housings...

14 bucks shipped... much cheaper then any in AU.

Wish they were here now, I have a couple of hours to kill and a soldering iron.. :-)

I think you need to look for T5's for the ef/el.

t10 for the ea-ed.

Just do an ebay search for T5.

That guy on ebay mjenterprises says he has lots of T5's but is currently out of T10's.

Better T10's, better spread and rated up to 16v not like every other LED which crap themselves after 3 months due to voltage spikes over 14v

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-Skyline-R ... dZViewItem

A bit tiny bit more expensive, but nothing like them....tons available as well.

just a confirmation for a electronically impaired person (me!):

ANY T10 LED can be fitted to an EA-ED dash, as long as it is rated to at least 12V, is that correct? there's no other globe specifications to be met?

wanna be certain before i spend my pennies :D

Bit of a misconception with the 12v thing, hardly any cars run 12v so will blow a LED globe quickly.

The LEDs above are rated to 16v so account for alternator fluctuations above 14.5v (charging voltage)

Doesn't take a second to ask the sellers what they're really rated to :)

Hi everyone,

finally got around to installing my blue LEDS.. wanted to share what I learned.

I found that a single T10 globe was not enough light for the digital speedo, so I soldered 3 together as below.
(that is with the LED display disconnected and moved to the side.)

Image

The result was much better with 3 LEDS and I did it over and over again
till I was happy with it. The secret is to point the globes at the black
area rather than where the numbers are displayed, that way the light
is more or less even. Also there is now enough illumination that it is
clear and readable in sunlight.

Image

I'm going to have to get some more LEDS, as I busted 2 on my
first attempt to create the 3 together and used the others in the
display.. didn't have any left to do the climate control or trip computer.

Image

The result is pretty good.., can't wait till the rest is blue as well.

Image

One last thing, single T10's are not good enough for general back lighting on
this dash either.. can hardly see the tacho or fuel/temp at night now..
will look at some of the combination leds I've seen around and use
the single globes in the climate control.

Nothing like a photo to convince you that you need to clean your dash.

Image

Blue suits the car so much better than orange.. :-)

thanks for the info on the digital dash's... if you check out the ebay link posted a few posts up then you will see the T10's made with multiple LED's in it, im sure these will do the same job as soldiering 3 led's together

It's interesting.. looking at those LEDS, they can't be anywhere near as big as the ones I got.. because you'd never get that many of them on the light base.... I think they use multiple smaller LEDS..

Still, I had already wrote to that guy to ask him if he had any to suit EA-ED dash.. (he only had EF/EL globes listed in Ford.)

big test today.. in full sunlight with my sunglasses on, the digital readout was still easily visable and still looked blue instead of washing out like I was expecting.. so all good. :-)

They would be exactly the same size LED, just the type you have used has a massive amount of epoxy around the semi-conductor to make it look like a normal bulb.

The other ebay ones would have 6 times the oomph in a compact package, also angled already :)

Ok, just for the record so it helps others doing the same thing...

To do an EA-ED Ghia dashboard, (dash and climate control) you need the following blue LEDS.

Dash
6 x T10 LEDS (preferably the multi led ones as mentioned in this thread)
(4 backlighting, 1 for the digital speedo and 1 for the door open car thingy)

Climate control.

2 x T5 backlight LEDs
1 x T10 Digital Display backlight LED
10 x 3mm blue LED's or better yet, blue rubber boots for 3mm LED's.

I'll detail the trip computer once I get to it..
