I'm looking at modding my EL Fairmont to have the AU steering wheel radio controls. So far I know I'll need the AU radio/cruise buttons, clock spring, stalks and airbag.
One thing I haven't confirmed is if the horn pads are different between EL/AU. Are they? If so, how hard is it to swap the pads on my EL wheel? Thanks in advance. EDIT: I mean the actual horn buttons/pads+wiring, not the airbag/front pad. Last edited by lameboyadvance on Thu Aug 25, 2011 7:11 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

yeah bolts straight on, the airbags parts of the horpad, just as you've alreadfy figured requires loom changes etc. I might have an airbag/ hornpad floating about in black if you want.

Sorry, I didn't mean the actual airbag/horn. I meant the horn buttons pads.... I guess you'd call them buttons.
![]() Picked up an AU airbag earlier today and noticed the horn seems to be in a slightly different location, but didn't double check while I had my current EL airbag out of the wheel for colour comparison. ![]() If they are in fact different is it possible to put AU horn buttons into an EL wheel (should be, everything else seems to be the same/slightly modified). |

The AU airbag I bought today only has a 2 wire plug (like the EL, but a different plug). Just checked - wrecker tag on it says its from an AU3. Will that still work, or do I need to be looking for an AU1 airbag?
The cruise on the EL uses the horn wires plus a third wire for on/off commands, connecting the third wire to either horn wire for on/off. Wouldn't applying the horn/cruise voltage to the airbag set it off, or am I missing something? EDIT: Nevermind. I talked to a guy I'm buying some stuff from and he told me about the airbag plug in the centre which I didn't even see. ![]() |
