hey guys, picked up some front and rear AU XR seats today. and was fitting the rear ones in and i have come accross a problem with the back seat.. there are metal hoops used for the old fittment and im not sure what do with them
 Now do i cut these off? or make a hole for them underneath? im guessing with them gone there wont be anything stopping it from sliding back and forth when people sit on it.. With the Backseat like the way it is there is quite a gap from the floor and seat   any help and tips to overcome this will be muchly appreciated. Cheers. Nath |

Yeah, AU's have the hoop design whereas the E series use a metal bar to lock it in (better design than the AU)

yea i realised that.. but how do i go about fitting it properly so it wont move?

AU's have a plastic clip that goes into the floor, and then that loop goes into it.
so if you wanted to do it right i think you'd need to get the plastic clips for the floor, and make the correct hole for it. or cut it off and let it sit there. most of the time they tend to sit in ok without being clipped in.

reckon if i cut them off and put velcro all the way along it would sit ok?

Well you can do it two different ways
1. cut the AU hoop off, get the metal bar from your old seat, weld it onto where the AU hoop use to be and see if it lines up OR 2. Carefully cut the old E-Series Clip thingo away, get the AU Hoop base even from a forte, they were the same design and then cut where the White AU Clip has to go OR as a a***, have the material carefully taken off the AU seat, and same for the EL seat and swap the material over

check the 6 cyl thread DOHC into ed i think its called, im pretty sure he put the au rear seat into the ed

hi ive done the au rear seat swap, on the "dohc into ed conversion" thread all you need to do is use the frame from your e series seat, its held in with steel staples best to get a pair of knips (wire cutters) flip over your au seat and cut those hoops strait off! if you feel around the edges of the au seat there will be a steel frame submerged in the foam (those hoops are a part of this), this au frame will be your anchor point for tying in the e series frame, baisicly all you need to do is lay the e series frame over the au seat and use tie wire to fix the frame in, sounds alot harder then it is, took me no more then half an hour and i was done. if you have any troubles or need help let me know and ill get some pics for you.

here is a pic of the eb seat (stripped) and the au seat with the eb frame, other pic is of how i fixed the frame in, you could use cable ties or something else but tie wire would be best.
   these pics are of the au bracket that you need to install to suit the flip down seats.    hope this helps. cheers Jesse

does this procedure apply to the EL aswell? i didnt see any metal frame like that on the bottom of my el seats

just checked my ef and it has the same mounting system as ea-ed the only difference is the frame is submerged in the foam like the au onwards.. all that really means is if your doing this conversion in a ef/el you should disregard the ef seat completely and just get the ea-ed frame from a wreckers as this will still suit the ef/el floorpan (cost would be about $10 or free if you find a bad enough seat) and then do the same process, tie the ea-ed frame into the au seat and it will fit first go.

How much them AU brackets for the backs of the seat set you back as im attempting this and all this info is helpfull, also how did you go about bolting in the side bolsters?

URZ2NV wrote: How much them AU brackets for the backs of the seat set you back as im attempting this and all this info is helpfull, also how did you go about bolting in the side bolsters? side bolsters? im assuming you mean the au brackets... the actual hinge brackets on the au seats are identical so they just bolt up as you most likely know, as for the catch/relese brackets in the photo i drilled a hole for a bolt and cut a slit for where the bottom of the bracket inserts into you need to find a way of getting a nut onto the bolt i did this by cutting a small hole around the side so that i could fit a spanner in with the nut ready to thread on, i hope that makes sense i would take some photos now but the car is at the workshop getting prepped for paint, the brackets should cost no more then $20 a pair mine just came with the seats.

ahhh just read that thread from the link above now i know what you mean by bollard
 with the au catch/release bracket mounted you will see there is a mounting point for the bollard to slide into, its as easy as that! you mount one bracket and solve two problems, as for the bolt down the bottom of the bollard that lines up perfectly with the original mounting point.cheers Jesse
