they can print white on transperencies cant they? another thing i was looking at doing was instead of using LEDs, using a couple of cold cathode neons. pyroay wrote: Ok quick rundown.
Materials List 4 x 100mm mini cold cathode neons (Jaycar) with seperate invertors - Remove daqsh surround and remove instrument cluster - Remove all esixting globes from instrument cluster - Remove needles (speedo, taco, oil pressure etc...) - Remove the printed gauge background - You can now see the motor's that drive these needles behind a plastic cover - Remove the scres and plastic cover - Place neon's evenly inbetween motors (use bluetak) - Wrap the invertors in electrical tape (as the back has exposed connections) and use doubble sided tape to hold them to the bottom edge of the cluster, there is plenty of space for upto 6 or maybe 7 starters - Connect neon's to starters - Run power and earth out the back of the cluster through the original globe holes - Place plastic cover on and speedo/taco backing and test for consistency and spread - Move neons as needed to get a consistant spread then silcone in place - Re-assemble All up if you have the parts it should take 30min... Saves having to deal with the bad spread of light from LEDs |

Ive never heard of white on transparencies, it would defeat the purpose.
No conventional printer is set up for white because they work on addition of color too the white paper. Also I agree with the CC idea.. but yer when im feeling rich also

If you go to a REAL printer place (not like a kinkos or officeworks) they'll be able to do it, but it'll cost cause it takes setup costs. So a 1 off job will be $$$.

The best home printer is the Epson Stylus R800 with their special durable long lasting ink technology for $699 RRP. Centrecom website is selling this baby dirty cheap $544.50 absolute bargain.
Super high quality photo prints and also does transparencies too. Its very handy for those photoshop dash mods. http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/pro ... ts_id=8880 why waste money on printers shop setup cost when you could invest in your own printer that does equal quality and have it in your very own home, do it there & then.

oh well, there goes that wacky scheme!!
I hust thought that you could print white on transperencies, but now that i think about it, it would be nigh on impossible...
the only problem i could see with aarons CC idea is where to get the power for them from... oh and just a side note, i wouldnt go near an epson printer again with the reliability issues i have had in the past |

Well, i'm a complete noob at this too, so a few questions to make everything crystal clear...
1. What is the exact paper you use for the template, and was it the mask that you got made into a transparency? 2. When you've carefully cut out the templates from both paper and transparency, presumably this isn't a very rigid structure, so how do you then put this into your cluster? Just chuck the paper and transparency in and hope they don't crumple up? Also, do you stick them together with anything, or is it really truly just like slotting some pringles chips back into the tube? 3. The Narva LEDs you used... are they all blue, white, or a mixture or the two colours? And finally, the most important question... 4. Who wants a beer?

1. I used 160GSM semi gloss but if your not going add additional LED's or use cold cathodes then use 90GSM as 160 wont be bright enough. The mask was the transparency. 2. You remove the old dials and the new mask and paper basically just slips straight into place. If you have spent time with the cutting (use a proper cutting board) then they will drop in and line up fine and theres no need to try and glue them together or anything. 3. the LED's are from jaycar (probably cheaper but more soldering required than Narva) and theyre all white 10,000mcd. 4. I just finished one
One more thing, these dials will eventually fade from UV exposure so expect to have to redo them after 2 years or so. Red/orange will fade far quicker than blue dials aswell. Almost all the old faded s**t you see around looks blue cos its lost the other colors.

ive just brought myself a epson photo r210 but ive tryed to print the dials ive designed and can't seem to get it to work always comes out ink still wet and doesn't dry at all got me stuffed.
HELP NEEDED

The two parts of the dials, hold together well, as the cluster has locating 'pins' on it it holds everything in place neatly.

you're gonna hate hot days or extremely cold temps as those who attempt the dials on photo glossy paper will eventually fade or even warp the paper. If you use the right paper or transparency you might be lucky to get away with this sort of problem roughly like he said 2-3 years before you have to replace the dials.

i'd be happy at the next NSW meet or cruise display how my dash mod turned out and to give out copies of the photoshop files on CD I used to create the dash mods. Files are TOO big to webhost or email. I'd ask 2 dollars so I can recover the cost of the CD & copying it.
if this is a good idea...

Well my dials are several months old now, and for a car that spends most of it's time outside, rain, hail, snow, ice, shine (Canberra, gets alot of the last two). They're as good as the day I put them in. But of course still al long way from 2 years.
