i dont like the look of my tatty door handles so im gunna buy the vht paint and paint them,thinking about doing the dash as well,are there any tricks to it?
any prep work? should i finish with clear? should i remove the dash too paint?

The final finish usually comes down to the prep work and time you put in. Wax and grease remove thoroughly. Then do it again for safe measures. Sand it back. Clean. Several coats of colour. And a light sand. Clear if you want a glossy look, or some form of sealer??

If ya want the paint to stick good and last , ya should use sum plastic primer before applying the paint ,clear ..etc

id would use a vinyl/plastic dye for colouring these things. its made by VHT and works a treat, just clean it up, no primer no sealant. instead of paint that 'sits' on top it absorbs in and will not come off

VHT doesn't 'absorb' into hard plastic.
i used $3 paint from bunnings on my dash surround over a year ago and it hasnt chipped or anyhting. plastic primer is only needed on parts that have alot of flex. the plastics used for the dash surround etc are very rigid and therefore don't require plastic priming. give them a good clean and remove any wax/grease then spray away. go clear coat if you want to, its not no means NEEDED.

Only sand it back if you want a smooth untextured look, but be sure to clean the part u paint first. In my experience the vht paint from supercheap stuck to the plastics well without primer. Its all up to you tho..

all i did was wash with soapy water, wet an dry sand paper (very fine) washed again then sprayed looks good

Common sense would agree with you here. But i have used the VHT die on the solid plastic shroud behind the steering wheel and it works perfect. Cant scratch it if i tried. I was under the same impression with you but thought, what the hell ill try it and it worked ok.

i'm not saying it won't work, i'm just saying with hard plastics it doens't absorb, it still coats the plastic.

Agreed...thats how I did mine...$3 paint from supercheap...no primer...just a good wash with hot soapy water... |

Is it hard to apply though? Do you need a steady hand, or is it hard to fudge up big time? I'd really like to get my whole interior black one day (in stages naturally).

both the normal paint and the VHT are very easy to apply.
just mask everything up as good as possible and you'll be sweet.

depends what your painting.
Shifter surround for instance, have to mask up the numbers. if you're painting the whole dash shell and don't wanna remove it (some ppl have done this) then you'll wanna mask up everything around it.
