Fairly odd question i have here. wasnt really sure where to put it either.

I am looking for a coil spring (or torsion bar) to use to hinge a platform. The platform will tilt at the front when unlatched.

It will need to be able to torque about 20 nm (i am guessing they are rated by torque). (ps: thats a fairly generous factor of safety there, could easily drop to 15 nm. )

where would i be able to find something like this?

i have been to a hardware store, and i got a blank look from the guy there.

any help is appreciated.

weve got a place here called Spring Works in Moonah. I don't exactly what they do, but I do know that one of the things is leaf springs for cars - I assume they probably do all sorts of springs, but I may be wrong. If little old Hopbart has such a place you should probably be able to find one near your aswell.

Yeah, it's a bit hard to recommend when we don't know exactly what you're building.
I'm picturing a coil spring with the ends having doglegs ???
If this is the case, the falcons have them in the exterior door handles, and the door locks themselves - they're all varying strength, so something might suit what you're doing.
Best I can recommend is go to a self serve wrecker and have a look around - should find something on the cheap.
