the wiring you can see in the picture is from when i put a clean body control module in it, i havent put it all back in place, i had the stereo wired up but i removed it because i couldnt find a harness to fit it, but its easy enough to put one back in. when i try to start it everything works as it should, because it has a new ecu and body control module (which is something that didnt work after the mechanic had a go at my car) the car will start if you put a dizzy in it (they didnt change it from a coil pack) so as far as i can tell that is the only thing stopping it from working, if i had the time and space i would rewire it so as it would surely pass rwc, but i have no time or space anymore. it never had any problems until i took it to the mechanic.

so is it a EF (coil packs) or EL (points dizzy)?

by the sounds of it, you might have an EF motor but trying to run EL parts in it which wont work

EDIT: ignore this, i just remembered its an AU motor.

this should be easy enough to change over.

the other thing id like to know about is the bunch of wires sitting in the battery tray... there is also a wire or 2 running across the top. what are they all for?

the red wires you are talking about are for the gas system, and the wires around where the battery tray was (the battery is in the boot) are relays, the relay assembly was unbolted to fault find ignition relays
